Hi, YABCers!

Today we're super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for THE GIRL AND THE GROVE by Eric Smith, releasing May 8, 2018 from North Star Editions/ Flux. Before we get to the cover, here's a note from Eric:

Hey there YA Book Central!

Oh my. I'm so thrilled to be here sharing the cover for my next YA novel, THE GIRL AND THE GROVE. It's an extra special moment for me, as this is my first YA novel in-print. My first YA series, Inked, was digital-only, and I'm just so excited to get to hold this book and see that cover in-real-life. And I hope you'll be psyched too!

So. Let's talk about that cover.

A major part of the novel has to do with a teen girl discovering a hidden grove tucked away in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park. There's a secret that has to do with who she is, hidden there amongst forgotten history and seemingly ancient trees. When Flux asked me what I wanted in a cover, I told them lots of green and trees. I was hoping the cover would really showcase the mystery and magic found there, and oh my goodness, did the team over at Flux deliver.

The bright greens, the twinkles on the ground, and an uncertain girl taking careful steps into a wilderness hidden in the city... it's all there, and I adore it. You better believe I'll be making posters of this one.

You can learn more about the book below, and keep an eye out for it this May with Flux. Thanks for having me!

~Eric

About the Book

Teenager Leila’s life is full of challenges. From bouncing around the foster care system to living with seasonal affective disorder, she’s never had an easy road. Leila keeps herself busy with her passion for environmental advocacy, monitoring the Urban Ecovists message board and joining a local environmental club with her best friend Sarika. And now that Leila has finally been adopted, she dares to hope her life will improve.

But the voices in Leila’s head are growing louder by the day. Ignoring them isn’t working anymore. Something calls out to her from the grove at Fairmount Park.
