Thanks so much for joining me today for the cover reveal of TEACH ME TO FORGET ;o) I’m SO thrilled to be here with you all today! A huge thank you to YA Books Central for hosting this reveal! I’ve been so fortunate to have a great team behind me to make Ellery’s story come to life. I think this cover says so much about Ellery and her story to survive. The amazing team at Merit Press/ F&W Media did a fabulous job of capturing the mood and feel of the book. I love the overlay that gives the hint that something brighter is just beneath the surface. It’s such a great representation of the theme. I’m so excited to share the cover!! Soooooo… HERE. WE. GO.

TEACH ME TO FORGET
Ellery’s bought the gun, made arrangements for her funeral, and even picked the day. A Wednesday. Everything has fallen into place.
Now all she has to do is die.
When her plans go awry and the gun she was going to kill herself with breaks, she does the one thing she has control over–return it and get a new one. After tormenting the crusty customer service associate by trying to return the gun with the wrong receipt, Ellery gets caught by the security guard who also happens to be someone she knows–the annoyingly perfect Colter Sawyer from her English class.
Colter quickly uncovers her secret and is determined to change her mind. After confessing his guilt over his brother’s suicide, he promises not to tell her secret. Ellery tries to fight her attraction to him as the shadows of her past cling tight around her, but when she’s faced with another tragedy, she must decide whether her love for one boy is more important than a lifetime of pain
About the Author
Erica M. Chapman is a young adult author who writes dark, emotional novels with a burst of humor, and lighter contemporaries with smart-ass protagonists. Her first novel, TEACH ME TO FORGET will be published by Merit Press in December 2016. Her writing is represented by the lovely Christa Heschke of McIntosh & Otis. She’s a member of SCBWI and a lifetime Lions and Michigan football fan who loves alternative music. She blogs, tweets, and watches various CW & Freeform shows while typing her next story on her MacBook in a Detroit Lions Snuggie.

Also the cover is simply perfection….i love looking at all kinds of landscapes on books.

I. Bad News First
The cover inspires a strong reaction of:
“Meh, whatever,” IMHO
and I’m afraid a number of other readers who share my unrefined taste might agree. So, I’d expect the cover isn’t going to do well with readers who judge books primarily by their covers — jk, that’s a totally imprecise statement of what I mean. I mean: this book won’t win readers who are significantly predisposed to either ignore or be turned off by a YA novel that doesn’t present a decidedly strong cover design in one way or another.
II. The Good News — The More Important Part(!)
This understated — and possibly mediocre — cover design makes a strong positive impression on me when considered in light of what little specific information I have gained about this author and book from reading this post alone. The cover design makes me suspect one or more of the following possibilities:
[b] –the primacy to the author of the work’s quality and authenticity far above its total sales and popularity[/b]. This cover was chosen Instead of :
–a cover with strong enough visuals to stand out from the crowded pack & draw a consumer’s attention first and/or most forcefully in a display or on a web page.
–a cover capable of contending as a fan fave — with significant buzz online about its beauty, style — overall visual appeal.
–a cover design incorporating particular familar visual tropes associated a number of the most popular and well-known books that could plausibly be categorized in the same YA genre as this work.
–real respect for and basic knowledge of her potential audience(s). Let me explain. YA fiction readers are passionate about the books we love as well as incredibly well-informed about new releases of potential interest due to our savvy concerning the amazing wealth of Internet resources catered to our interest. I’d guess that a good number of readers likely to enjoy and/or buy this book will hear of it through one of the many online sources and/or a fellow reader. Though perhaps book lovers may seek out and engage more with info on books that look appealing at first glance, that doesn’t mean we turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to books without great covers.
[b]To conclude, let me make my point clear because I know I haven’t done that yet: This book — or rather, the people behind it including and especially the author and publisher — are betting it won’t flop because it didn’t catch our eyes first. They’ve staked the whole success of this thing on trust in the strength of YA book lovers’ interest in discovering, reading (and supporting) awesome new reads.[/b]
On the other hand, cover selection could have been a slapdash job with a kinda random result. Let’s hope the book doesn’t match if that’s what happened!

The cover matches the synopsis so well–I love the blurred focus, the clouds, and the hope of blue sky above.
