I’m not a prepper. I’m not a survivalist. I’m a realist who plans to survive.
Bex is determined to survive, whatever the crisis, whatever it takes—she knows exactly what to pack, she can shoot any gun, and she’s got plans to drag her family to safety by force, if necessary. So she’s intrigued when she discovers Clearview, a group that takes survival just as seriously as she does. So what if some people think they’re wackos? There’s nothing crazy about being prepared.
But Bex isn’t prepared for meeting Lucy, who complicates all of her careful plans. As secrets at Clearview begin to mount and the pieces of Bex’s life become more difficult to juggle, Bex has to figure out where her loyalties really lie — and what it’ll really take to survive.
About the Author
E. M. Kokie is the author of Personal Effects (Candlewick Press, 2012), a YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults and Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults Top Ten and a Lambda Literary Award Finalist. Her next novel, Radical (Candlewick Press, September 2016), explores family, identity, survival, and guns, not necessarily in that order. This sounds like a really unique read; I always like the Candlewick-published books I choose to read. This sounds like it has a really textured central character, and that is a key factor for me. Thanks for introducing me to this book and for the chance to win! Cheers, Kara S

The cover looks so bleak, but that reflects the synopsis–this character doesn’t have much hope for happiness, just trying to survive. Sounds unique for me!
It’s a bold cover with a whole lot of imagery though it may not seem that way in the beginning. The synopsis is what really caught y attention! Finally a different kind of book!
Sounds great! Can’t wait to read. I love survivalist stories but this sounds a little different. And the cover…Wow! I love it. Mysterious and the idea sounds interesting. On my to-read list!
