Today we’re celebrating the cover for LARK RISING by Sandra Waugh releasing September 23, 2014 from Random House Books for Young Readers. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Sandra:
Hello YABC!
Once upon a time a hawk lit upon my porch railing. We eyed one another for awhile, and LARK RISING was born. So it is thrilling to finally reveal this cover — such a hauntingly beautiful capturing of the journey from imagination to writing to book. Lush… rich… oh yay, hooray and WOW! My most heartfelt thanks to the wonderful digital artist, Marcela Bolivar (so far away in Cali, Colombia!) for her work and to the team at Random House for this inspired choice of artist! I keep getting lost in the visual details until I just have to dive in for the story. I hope you all do, too!

About the Book
Lark has foreseen two things—she will fall for a young man with sage green eyes, and he will kill her.
Sixteen-year-old Lark Carew is happiest close to home, tending her garden and gathering herbs for medicines. But when her Sight warns her that troll-like Troths will soon invade her village, Lark is summoned on a journey to seek help from the legendary Riders of Tarnec. Little does she suspect that one of the Riders, Gharain, is the very man who has haunted her visions. Or that the people of Tarnec have called her there for another reason: Lark is the Guardian of Life, the first of four Guardians who must awaken their powers to recover four stolen amulets. Together, the amulets—Life, Death, Dark, and Light—keep the world in Balance. To take back the Life amulet, Lark will have to discover her true inner strength and give in to a love that she swears will be her downfall.
About the Author
Sandra Waugh grew up in an old house full of crowded bookshelves, in walking distance of an old library that allowed her to drag home a sack of six books at a time. It goes without saying, then, that she fell in love with an old house in Litchfield County, Connecticut, because of its many bookshelves, and she lives there now with her husband, two sons, and a dog who snores. The cover reminds me of Lord of the Rings, which I do love. I am very excited to read about a girl who is comfortable at home but will have to go on an adventure to become the Guardian of Life!

Amazing synopsis! Reading a story of a girl who loves her killer? That’s some interesting plot! And the cover looks like some sort of symbolism. At least, in my opinion. I hope to read this book! One of the best-looking books I’ve ever witnessed!

Beautiful cover that seems to elude to what might happen in the novel. It seems like an enthralling read which is right up my alley. The idea that someone would know who is going to kill them, and who they are going to fall in love with seems intriguing, What makes it even more interesting is the fact that the one she falls in love with will kill her. Overall this books seems like a very good read and I can’t wait to take it out for a spin. 🙂

This cover is gorgeous! It has a very fairytale feel to me, which I adore. I seem to be on a read-books-about-girls-with-bird-names kick lately, so Lark fits in wonderfully! I love the fantasy and adventure elements! And a dark romance is always exciting!
