Hi, YABCers!
Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for HOW TO MAKE A WISH by Ashley Herring Blake, releasing May 2, 2017 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Ashley:
Hi, YABC, I’m so excited to be here today to reveal the cover for How to Make a Wish. This book has been many years in the making. Houghton Mifflin gave me the choice between two covers that they, as a house, were equally excited about. But the moment I saw the cover you’re about to see, I knew it was the one. First of all, it’s just gorgeous. Lisa Vega, the designer, did an amazing job pulling together all the feels from the book and I immediately fell in love. The second reason I knew it was the one is harder to explain. This cover just feels right to me. It feels like Grace, my main character. It feels like Eva, the girl whose life collides with Grace’s one fateful summer. It feels like the days and nights they spend together. I absolutely love these girls and this cover, and I hope you love them too!

HOW TO MAKE A WISH
All seventeen year-old Grace Glasser wants is her own life. A normal life in which she sleeps in the same bed for longer than three months and doesn’t have to scrounge for spare change to make sure the electric bill is paid. Emotionally trapped by her unreliable mother, Maggie, and the tiny cape on which she lives, she focuses on her best friend, her upcoming audition for a top music school in New York, and surviving Maggie’s latest boyfriend—who happens to be Grace’s own ex-boyfriend’s father.
Her attempts to lay low until she graduates are disrupted when she meets Eva, a girl with her own share of ghosts she’s trying to outrun. Grief-stricken and lonely, Eva pulls Grace into midnight adventures and feelings Grace never planned on.When Eva tells Grace that she likes girls both of their worlds open up. But,united by loss, Eva also shares a connection with Maggie. As Grace’s mother spirals downward, both girls must figure out how to love and how to move on.

I really liked the synopsis of the book up until the point where Eva and Grace explore a relationship. The cover, however, is pretty and reminiscent of afternoons on the lake.
The cover reminds me of summer and all the wonderful things that come with it: afternoons with friends, days that turn into nights, not a care in the world… Oh, and, of course, those summer crushes! ? I’m interested in reading how these two young women meet and come to make one another stronger. Love conquers all.
I think it’s a great synopsis. At one point of another in our lives we all look for that chance to find someone who gets where we’re coming from not matter the chaotic situation we’re living in; be it from Home, School, or maybe even an addiction we’re dealing with. It’s a great read as it also deals with the coming of age and new sexuality, I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on this ARC for a good read and review for my blog.
This cover is beautiful, and the story sounds incredible. I can’t wait to read it!
I love the cover! The title is adorable. Really like the synopsis and cannot wait to read the book!!!
The cover is fun and screams “summer!” to me. The synopsis promises an emotional read and I’m hoping it’s more than just a “beach read” and has emotional depth with well-developed characters.
