Hi, YABCers!

Today we're super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for HONOR CODE by Kiersi Burkhart, releasing March 1, 2018 from Carolrhoda Lab™. Before we get to the cover, here's a note from Kiersi:

Honor Code is a book very close to my heart. I wrote it with the hope of echoing the many, many true stories about what women face every day: how our experiences are minimized and downplayed, how our truths aren’t believed, and how our bodies often feel like public property. Even the institutions expected to keep us safe—schools, police, government, family—can turn on us when we challenge them.

I believe that all women have, at some point in their lives, felt like Sam: alone and isolated, and pressured into accepting awful things in the name of keeping the peace. We are expected to suck it up, buttercup, when someone touches us inappropriately, or suggests we diet, or tells us how much better we look when we smile.

And Honor Code is my answer to that. No, we won’t suck it up. No, we won’t be quiet. No, we won’t diet. No, we won’t smile.

I only hope that Sam’s fight inspires everyone who feels belittled, silenced, and powerless to speak up, and take back their power.

~Kiersi

About the Book

Sam knows how lucky she is to be part of the elite Edwards Academy. As she dreams of getting into Harvard one day, she's willing to do anything to fit in and excel at the private high school. Even if that means enduring hazing, signing up for a sport she hates, and attending the school dance with an upperclassman she barely knows.

But when she learns the high cost of entry, will Sam be willing to bury the worst night of her life in order to "keep the community sacred"? As the line between truth and justice blurs, Sam must find out for herself what honor really means.

About the Author

Kiersi Burkhart grew up a cowgirl in Colorado and can still run a mean barrel race. At sixteen, she attended a small private college in Oregon that helped to inspire Edwards Academy. Like most women she grew up amid stories of abuse, but where victims are forced into silence. Honor Code is her response to that silence—and to the insular communities that help to protect abusers and deprive victims of their voices. Now she lives and works as a freelance writer in Casper, Wyoming. While not writing and running her own business, she finds time to advocate for social justice. Kiersi has a deep and abiding love of Pokemon, her partner, and her dog Baby. She's also got a dragon tattoo.

I like the cover. It draws you in and makes you curious and then the synopsis sucks you further down the rabbit hole

The cover is eye-catching but doesn't tell me much about the story. I really like the sound of the story - very suspenseful.
