Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for EVER THE HUNTED by Erin Summerill, releasing December 27, 2016 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Erin:
Hey, YABC! I’m so giddy-excited-twitchy-happy to share the cover of EVER THE HUNTED with you. I clearly had nothing to do with how ridiculously gorgeous it is. I’m good with words, good with a camera, not good with anything graphic artsy. So when my editor sent it to me, my first reaction was: UNHHHHHH. A straight shot of shock left me senseless for about 2.7 seconds. And then I squealed like Ian Somerhalder was proposing, I mumbled something about the cover being too beautiful for words, and I then may have cried a tear or twenty. I won’t snicker if your reaction is the same.

EVER THE HUNTED
Seventeen year-old Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow. She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, the legendary bounty hunter for the King of Malam—that is, until her father is murdered. Now outcast and alone and having no rights to her father’s land or inheritance, she seeks refuge where she feels most safe: the Ever Woods. When Britta is caught poaching by the royal guard, instead of facing the noose she is offered a deal: her freedom in exchange for her father’s killer.
However, it’s not so simple.
The alleged killer is none other than Cohen McKay, her father’s former apprentice. The only friend she’s ever known. The boy she once loved who broke her heart. She must go on a dangerous quest in a world of warring kingdoms, mad kings, and dark magic to find the real killer. But Britta wields more power than she knows. And soon she will learn what has always made her different will make her a daunting and dangerous force.

I love all the scroll details and the white! The typography is really pretty, too. Not a huge fan of the loud gradient on the title, so I hope that means the final cover will have a spot varnish title—a gloss there would be so sleek!

I love the cover! I love the colors, the design, and how the green letters stand out so beautifully against the white and gold. The synopsis sounds really interesting. Archery has always fascinated me! How will I be able to wait until December 26… 2016?!

I think the cover stirs the reader’s imagination in a way that maintains some mystery about plot. That is, instead of representing a character or some sort of activity or theme, the striking, simple cover makes one want to open the book to discover what there is to see in this new world. The Topography is pulling you in and the colors just accentuate that.
The Synopsis kind of reminds me of another book i’ve read, albeit similar but not similar. Just in the aspect of a girl and her father in the outdoors bonding and loving the woods, the father trains the girl and then one day he ends up dead and of course the daughter tried to help find the killer. She’s good at tracking etc

I think the cover needs to be more exciting for this book that is action, adventure and mystery. It wouldn’t make me pick it up. The synopsis tells too much, especially the last sentence. I don’t want to know that the heroine finds she has great powers. I want to find out if she does.
