It's Live!! Cover Reveal: Dessert First by Dean Gloster + Giveaway (US/Canada)
Hi, YABCers!
Today we're super excited to celebrate the new cover reveal for DESSERT FIRST by Dean Gloster, releasing September 18, 2016 from Merit Press. Before we get to the cover, here's a note from Dean:
Hi, YABC, and welcome to the cover reveal of DESSERT FIRST!
The cover design is by Colleen Cunningham and Alexandra Artiano, and—in my opinion—it totally rocks. Thanks to everyone at Merit Press for making this a reality and to my daughter Alexandra Gloster, who found a scene of this book on the family computer many years ago and said, “Dad, this is really good. You should finish it.” There will be more giveaways on my website when it goes live next month, along with a book blog by my protagonist, Kat: www.deangloster.com. Be well.

DESSERT FIRST
Smart, funny 16-year-old Kat Monroe has the usual problems with sophomore year: Difficulty with friendships, her crush on hot musician (and former best friend) Evan Ford, and friction with her slightly crazy family. On top of all that, her younger brother has a cancer relapse, and Kat’s donated bone marrow might be his only hope, giving new meaning to the phrase “getting rejected.” Even Kat’s sense of humor might not be enough to get her through. She might have to learn to forgive.

About the Author
Dean Gloster is a former law clerk to two U.S. Supreme Court Justices and a former stand-up comic. When not writing YA novels, he ski races during the winter (Super-G is his best event) and is enrolled in the low-residency MFA program in writing for children and young adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts, where he has the most amazing, wonderful classmates in the world. His wife Nancy Ricci works at the children’s hospice The George Mark House in San Leandro, California. When Dean is not at home in Berkeley, California, Saucy the dog guards the commas in his manuscripts.
Writing, flying, and ski racing have lots in common: According to Douglas Adams, all you have to do is throw yourself at the ground and miss.

I was thrilled with the cover design by Colleen Cunningham and Alexandra Artiano.
Love the cover and colors used. This book sounds fun and heartwarming. I can't wait to read about Kat's Sophomore year.
I don't like the cover very much, but the story sounds worthwhile and that's what's most important! Thanks, Kara S
The premise is an important one for families who have dealt with childhood cancer. There aren't enough books out there yet for those who can relate to that ordeal or even to help those who have not had the misfortune of dealing with that in their family to better understand what some families must go through. My favorite book so far that deals with childhood cancer is Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick.
The cover may work after I read this book (I may understand it better). Maybe because life is short, you should enjoy it and "eat your dessert first" then get to work on the not so fun things.
I think the cover is cute because it fits well with the title. It shows what comes after "Dessert First", a plate of crumbs.
The cover is nice. This book sounds good.
