It's Live!! Cover Reveal: CITY OF BASTARDS by Andrew Shvarts + Giveaway (US Only)

City-of-Bastards-cover-final-header

Hi, YABCers!

Today we're excited to celebrate the cover reveal for CITY OF BASTARDS by Andrew Shvarts, releasing June 5, 2018 from Hyperion. Before we get to the cover, here's a note from Andrew:

Hi YABCers! I'm so thrilled to be here today to share the cover of CITY OF BASTARDS, the sequel to ROYAL BASTARDS. As you might guess from the title, this book takes place in a city, Lightspire, the capital of Noveris and home to the royal family. Tilla, our bastard heroine, is hiding out there from her father's rebellion, but her attempts at a calm life of nobility are shattered by the murder of her friend. Tilla's hunt for the killer plunges her deep into the city's underbelly, a world of shadowy cults, forbidden magic, and a conspiracy to destroy the crown from within.

When I saw this cover, I couldn't believe how perfect it was. The lush colors bring out the distinctive architecture of Lightspire (not to mention the spire itself!) and the trail of blood and haunting red light hint at the city's danger and mystery. I absolutely love this cover, and I hope you all do too!

About the Book

While war rages in her Western homeland, Tilla of House Kent is far away, safely cloistered as a ward of the King in Lightspire. She's best friends with the Princess, treated like nobility, and is even given a spot at the prestigious University, where only the Kingdom's finest are educated. And yet, she finds herself unhappy, haunted by memories of her beloved brother, Jax, and plagued by a deeper sense of uncertainty, of not fitting in.

Her boyfriend, Zell, who is now a recruit for the City Watch, puts on a brave face to hide the pain of leaving behind his Zitochi identity, while Princess Lyriana, stripped of her role as Mage, has begun rebelling against her conservative upbringing: drinking, partying, and hooking up with random boys.

Then, Tilla returns to her quarters one night to find the cold body of her roommate. The girl was the daughter of an Eastern diplomat, well-known to be troubled, so the school has no trouble ruling it a suicide and sweeping it under the rug. Tilla doesn't buy it. And despite the urging of just about everyone in her life, she can't let it go. She digs deeper, along with Zell, Lyriana, and the Archmagus-to-be Ellarion, unearthing a conspiracy that goes from the highest of the nobility to the most dangerous depths of its criminal underbelly...and whose sinister mastermind is a face all too familiar.

Giveaway Details

Four winners will each receive a hardcover of ROYAL BASTARDS (synopsis below).

Being a bastard blows. Tilla would know. Her father, Lord Kent of the Western Province, loved her as a child, but cast her aside as soon as he had trueborn children.

At sixteen, Tilla spends her days exploring long-forgotten tunnels beneath the castle with her stablehand half brother, Jax, and her nights drinking with the servants, passing out on Jax’s floor while her castle bedroom collects dust. Tilla secretly longs to sit by her father’s side, enjoying feasts with the rest of the family. Instead, she sits with the other bastards, like Miles of House Hampstedt, an awkward scholar who’s been in love with Tilla since they were children.

Then, at a feast honoring the visiting princess Lyriana, the royal shocks everyone by choosing to sit at the Bastards’ Table. Before she knows it, Tilla is leading the sheltered princess on a late-night escapade. Along with Jax, Miles, and fellow bastard Zell, a Zitochi warrior from the north, they stumble upon a crime they were never meant to witness.

Rebellion is brewing in the west, and a brutal coup leaves Lyriana’s uncle, the Royal Archmagus, dead--with Lyriana next on the list. The group flees for their lives, relentlessly pursued by murderous mercenaries; their own parents have put a price on their heads to prevent the king and his powerful Royal Mages from discovering their treachery.

The bastards band together, realizing they alone have the power to prevent a civil war that will tear their kingdom apart—if they can warn the king in time. And if they can survive the journey . . .

Entering is simple, just fill out the entry form below. Winners will be announced on this site and in our monthly newsletter (sign up now!) within 30 days after the giveaway ends.

I've kind of passed up this series so far because I just wasn't sure about it, but after seeing so many great reviews on blogs, I definitely need to read it. Love the regal colors on the cover.
