Hi, YABCers!
Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for A VOID THE SIZE OF THE WORLD by Rachele Alpine, releasing July 4, 2017 from Simon Pulse. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Rachele:
Hi, YABC!
I can’t believe I finally get to share the cover of A VOID THE SIZE OF THE WORLD with the world! Yay!
This is a book that’s haunted me ever since I first wrote it as a short story in a MFA fiction class. The characters wouldn’t leave me, and I saw them everywhere; in pictures, music, even the dark woods that I’d drive past on my way home. I needed to go deeper into their world to discover what was hidden and lurking. I began searching for images that connected to my book and slowly the whole story about these two sisters was written. Here’s the Pinterest Board that inspired so much of this book: https://www.pinterest.com/ralpine/a-void-the-size-of-the-world/
This book is so much about the empty space a person leaves in a world that moves on when they’re gone and the cover encompasses that feeling perfectly. The missing space is almost mesmerizing, and creates a sense of unease at this happy moment that has been ruined and ripped apart. I hope it makes you feel that same sort of creepy unrest!

A VOID THE SIZE OF THE WORLD
Rhylee didn’t mean to kiss her sister’s boyfriend. At least, not the first time.
But it doesn’t matter, because her sister, Abby, caught them together – and ran into the dark woods behind their house and never came home.
Days stretch into weeks, and Abby is missing. As evidence mounts that something terrible has happened to Abby, no one wants to face the truth. Rhylee can’t bring herself to admit what she’s done: that she is the reason her sister ran away. Now Tommy, Abby’s boyfriend, is the prime suspect in her disappearance, and Rhylee’s world has been turned upside down.
Slowly, Rhylee’s family is breaking – their lives center around hope that Abby will return, leaving the present a stagnant shadow of baited breath. Rhylee knows they need to face the truth and begin healing – but how can they, when moving on feels like a betrayal?
How could one mistake ruin everything? And how do you face the guilt of wishing a person gone…when they actually disappear?

Terrific cover!
The cover is so high school — it reminds me of those times I cut an old boyfriend out of a photo that I liked!
The summary of the book had my heart beating already. I can’t imagine the emotional turmoil the reader would go through when immersed in this book!
I’m typically not drawn to the more contemporary covers, but this one commands a second glance. As for the premise, it remains delightfully vague, and I’m left hoping for a hotbed of twisted characters and equally serpentine plot twists.
I find the image really intriguing and the synopsis of the plot unique and compelling. Thanks! 😀 –Kara S
A void the size of the world sounds great ♡ I would love to read this book. The cover is fantastic! Thank you
Ugh! Can you IMAGINE what ot would be like to catch your sibling kissing your significant other?!?! I think my first thoughts would be “b*tch better run!” But then to have her disappear? Whoa, talk about serious guilt trip… I’d never be the same again! A piece would feel missing… The cover is perfect for the feeling you can imagine being left with. What a uniquely interesting plot. Can’t wait to read it!
The cover is exciting and I’d pick this book up just based on the cover alone. I’m not sure how believable it would be to run away based on this betrayal, unless the sister was already mentally unstable. I’ll have to read this book to find out how the author makes me believe this character would run way or maybe she was a crime victim…
The title and the cover go together beautifully! Awesome blurb! Can’t wait to read this!
The cover and the synopsis go perfectly together! The void in the cover completely draws your attention and it screams the feeling of something missing.
