Guest Post: A Wreckless Playlist by Bria Quinlan + Giveaway! (US/Canada)
Wreckless by Bria Quinlan
Some books have a song that plays over and over while you write it, others have an entire playlist. Wreckless was one of those great playlist books.
Being set in rural middle America, Wreckless’s playlist is all country. It was a little weird for me to be in a Country Only Zone, but still a lot of fun.
So let’s kick it off!
(Here's a link to the playlist if you want to listen along. Thanks, YABC, for putting it together!)
SOMETHING LIKE THAT - Tim McGraw
I love this song. If you grew up where the fair was a big deal, this song will totally speak to you. Confession: I was a 4-H nerd! Fairs were work-during-the-day and flirt-with-the-boy-you-were-eyeing that night. (Sigh). A perfect combination!
WHITE HORSE - Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift has almost too many songs about getting dumped, overlooked, or cheated on but this one has the sadness to it – the lack of anger – that leads to self-doubt and self-blame. This was where Bridget starts… so thank goodness for that boy and his truck.
Speaking of which…
SOMETHING ‘BOUT A TRUCK - Kip Moore
Really? Do I have to say more? I mean, there just always has been something about a boy and his truck for me…which never caused me any trouble. Nope. No trouble at all. *wanders away looking dazed*
BAREFOOT BLUE JEAN NIGHT - Jake Owen
We all have nights like this. Nights so free that they just live in our minds as A Moment. Bridget will remember her night for a lifetime… And we all want one of those, don’t we?
DRINK IN MY HAND - Eric Church
I love this song. It’s such a Forget About It And Hit A Party song.
DIRT ROAD ANTHEM - Jason Aldean
I grew up on a dirt road… annnnnd I also grew up racing those roads like the cops were on our tails. People keep asking me about my own recklessness. This was definitely one of the places I may have pushed some lines. Picture swerving through the woods, lights off, fog rising, turns coming up on you sooner than you remembered and all you cared about was making darn sure you weren’t letting the boys’ car win. Yeah.
I’m not saying I was like that… but if I was like that, you know, ever—I probably didn’t lose very often. Just saying.
But the laidback vibes of DIRT ROAD ANTHEM are the other side of that crazy rush feeling. The getting lost in your own backyard, following the stars with the music blaring side.
Jake gets this – he knows all about the going nowhere fast joy of the open road, with your world vibing down to just you and that person sitting next to you.
LIVE LIKE WE’RE DYING - Kris Allen
There’s a moment in each of our lives, sometimes it sticks and sometimes it’s just that time Right Then when you realize you have to do something and not let an opportunity pass you by. It’s a call for freeeeeeedooooommmmmm!
SOMEWHERE WITH YOU - Kenny Chesney
I listened to this one a lot - it was on replay for a big portion of the Bridget’s night. Just that desperation to be with someone who was probably not the best thing for you. That gut-deep feeling that keeps you coming back. …yeah. Bridget was feeling it because Jake was new. Jake was feeling it because of an inner battle going on we don’t know about right away. But they both just had to come back to each other. But how long will that pull win and who will be able to walk away?
I DON’T WANT THIS NIGHT TO END - Luke Bryan
Luke. Bryan. LUKE. BRYAN. And also, if you were out with Jake Moore, would you want the night to end? Just saying.
So, what happens next, right? That’s the real question in any night like this. You take the risks, stretch the rules… or maybe just plain out break them. And when the sun rises the next day, who are you? Forever changed? Just the same? Only you will know.
So, what song makes you feel a little “wreckless” – a little epic and invincible? Let us know in the comments!
