It’s time to PAR-TAY!

Today we’re celebrating the cover reveal for our very own Senior Editor, MG Buehrlen’s, debut YA novel THE 57 LIVES OF ALEX WAYFARE, coming to stores March 2014 from Strange Chemistry!

Before we get to the goods, here’s a message from MG:

Hey YABCers!

Boy is this surreal. I’ve been bringing you cover reveals from other authors for a few years now, and I have loved every minute of it. Cover reveals are one of my favorite parts of running YABC. It seems strange that today is my turn to reveal my own cover for THE 57 LIVES OF ALEX WAYFARE. All I can say is that I love you all, I love bringing you the latest in YA promo, and I’m so glad you choose to visit YABC each week. It wouldn’t be here without you! I also hope you love this cover. We worked hard to bring a bit of 57 LIVES to life, and I think we’ve done it. The cover is haunting, mysterious, and beautiful. I’m proud of it, and I think it’s going to look great on your bookshelf. 😉

About the Book

One girl. Fifty-seven lives. Endless ways to die.

For as long as 17-year-old Alex Wayfare can remember, she has had visions of the past. Visions that make her feel like she’s really on a ship bound for America, living in Jamestown during the Starving Time, or riding the original Ferris wheel at the World’s Fair.

But these brushes with history pull her from her daily life without warning, sometimes leaving her with strange lasting effects and wounds she can’t explain. Trying to excuse away the aftereffects has booked her more time in the principal’s office than in any of her classes and a permanent place at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Alex is desperate to find out what her visions mean and get rid of them.

It isn’t until she meets Porter, a stranger who knows more than should be possible about her, that she learns the truth: Her visions aren’t really visions. Alex is a Descender – capable of traveling back in time by accessing Limbo, the space between Life and Afterlife. Alex is one soul with fifty-six past lives, fifty-six histories.

Fifty-six lifetimes to explore: the prospect is irresistible to Alex, especially when the same mysterious boy with soulful blue eyes keeps showing up in each of them. But the more she descends, the more it becomes apparent that someone doesn’t want Alex to travel again. Ever.

And will stop at nothing to make this life her last.

The cover is mysterious and you wont be able to know immediately what the book is about, and I think it kind of looks like the cover of the 5th Wave, having a dark background and a dark figure of a girl in the middle of a forest and all.

Just to add that the cover design is by the fab Rebecca Lown (http://www.rebeccalown.com).

  34. Dana says:

The cover is okay. The woods and the firefly type streaks look neat, but with just the silhouette of the girl, it’s a little boring. I would have liked something with multiple silhousettes (like on some versions of An Abundance of Katherines by John green), to representt the “multiple lives” better.

  35. Amalie Greenway says:

This cover is so pretty. It very skillfully communicates a mood of mystery, and I think the script is incredibly lovely.

  46. Lux A. B. says:

I think the cover of ”THE 57 LIVES OF ALEX WAYFARE” by M.G. Buehrlen, is eye capturing. Now, there’s that saying, ”Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. But I disagree, I’m a girl who likes to see something interesting or fasinating or mesmerizing or fun on a cover. It gives me this feeling of ”Oh my Gods. I have to see what this is about!” Now, this book cover is eye capturing. I love the whole dark, kind of foggy, mysterious with this shadow-like interesting silhouette of this character, right in the center. The whole cover picture, I feel it gives this intense, yet mystical vibe just by looking at it. The font chosen for the title is almost in a way, to me- well, it almost through me off, but then I just focused on the whole thing, and actually ended up staring at it for about 6 minute. Like I was in a trance or something. I absolutely love it, and it definitely is one of those books that capture my eye and then makes me want to majorly find out what the heck the story is about, and how does the cover relate to it?! Yeah. I love the art and designing behind it. Very intriguing. 😀
