Good morning, YABCers!

Today we’re excited to reveal Anne Blankman’s PRISONER OF NIGHT AND FOG, available April 2014 from Balzer+Bray/HarperCollins. Before we get to the goods, here’s a message from Anne:

Hello YABC!

My name is Anne Blankman, and I’m the author of PRISONER OF NIGHT AND FOG. I’m so excited to be here today to reveal my cover. When I wrote this book, I kept imagining the cover with my main character, hand in hand with her forbidden love, running down a dark street while Hitler glared after them. I know, terrible, right? But I couldn’t figure out how one image could capture the romantic, mysterious, and historical elements of this book.

Thankfully, the design team at Balzer+Bray/HarperCollins could. When my editor emailed me the cover, I knew the designers had gotten it completely right. I hope seeing the cover makes you as excited to read PRISONER OF NIGHT AND FOG as I am to share it with all of you!

PRISONER OF NIGHT AND FOG

by Anne Blankman
Release date: April 22, 2014
Publisher: Balzer+Bray/HarperCollins
ISBN: 9780062278814

About the Book

In 1930s Munich, danger lurks behind dark corners and secrets are buried deep within the city.

But Gretchen Müller, who grew up in the Nationalist Socialist Party as her uncle Dolf’s favorite, has always been shielded from that side of society. Uncle Dolf has kept Gretchen’s family in his cherished inner circle ever since her father traded his life for Dolf’s, and Gretchen is his little pet.

Uncle Dolf is none other than Adolf Hitler. And Gretchen, who lives in the shadow of her uncle, follows his every command.

Until she meets a fearless and handsome young Jewish reporter named Daniel Cohen. She should despise Daniel, yet she can’t stop herself from listening to his story: that her father, the adored Nazi martyr, was actually murdered by an unknown comrade. She also can’t help the fierce attraction brewing between them, despite everything she’s been taught to believe about Jews. As Gretchen investigates the very people she’s always considered friends, she must decide where her loyalties lie. Will she choose the safety of her former life as a Nazi darling or will she dare to dig up the truth—even if it could get her and Daniel killed?

From debut author Anne Blankman comes this harrowing and evocative story about an ordinary girl faced with the extraordinary decision to give up everything she’s ever believed…and to trust her own heart instead.

Our Thoughts
You guys, I’ve been waiting for this book for FOREVER already. Ever since I read a tiny snippet about it a few months back. The main character’s uncle IS HITLER. Put away every other historical on your list because this one just moved up to the #1 spot.

I think the cover is super intriguing and intense, just like the synopsis. I love the fog treatment at the bottom, and her lips! I want lips this color. Oh yes, I do.

Interestingly, it reminds me a lot of The Daughter of Shadow and Bone cover. However, I like that we can get a pretty good sense of the era just from her face. The hair and bright red lips are very 1940s.
