Bookstagrammer of the Month: Mai of @bookish_mai!

bookish_mai

Welcome to our monthly special feature post, Bookstagrammer Of The Month!

Each month we will be interviewing a different Bookstagrammer  (Book lover/photographer on Instagram) who will share with us a bit of their experience with the #Bookstagram community!

Introducing Mai of @bookish_mai, YABC's Bookstagrammer of the Month!!

 image1.jpeg

My name is Mai from @bookish_mai. I'm from Saudi Arabia and work as a clinical dietitian. I've been an avid reader since childhood, my current favorite genres are fantasy and crime fiction. I'm obsessed with Stormlight Archive, Shades of Magic and Ember Quartet. When I'm not at work, I'm either reading or taking photos of books.

How long have you been part of the Bookstagram community?

I have been part of Bookstagram for two years and a half.

Can you tell us a bit about your feed/style and how has it changed
over time?

I love both rustic styles and colorful feeds so I experimented alot until I finally settled on my current style. I started out with a colorful feed and then I discovered my love for wooden backgrounds and rustic warm photos. I jumped back and forth until I realized I was able to have rustic warm photos with pops of color.

What is the silliest thing you've ever done for the sake of a photo?

During our trip to Portofino, I was adamant to take a bookish photo with the gorgeous scenery.  The area was so crowded with tourists who wanted a good view for photos and I looked ridiculous, standing for an hour struggling to keep the book open while everyone was waiting for my spot.

When do you make time for taking photos? Do you usually plan ahead or take photos as you go (daily)?

Because I work a full time Job, I have to plan photos ahead of time. Besides, I need good sunlight, which is usually early afternoon. Weekends is all about photo shooting for me.

 What type of camera do you use?

I started out with my phone but now I use a Canon EOS 80D. I use ColorStory and Ultralight for editting.

What are some of your favorite props (besides books, of course ;))?

Flowers, confetti, candles, wooden crafts, coffee, fairy lights and my wooden backdrop.

What book/series do you tend to photograph the most?

Probably Ember Quartet, Caraval and Strange The Dreamer. These books are so photogenic.

Which of your photos is your absolute favorite and why?

I don't have a particular favorite but I like when I'm actually focused for a change ???? and my photos expresses a certain theme and is also color coordinated. This one was for sea themed books.

What is the thing you love most about Bookstagramming?

Bookstagram is such a friendly community. I cherish all of the friends that I made and all the book recommendations/reviews that helped me out. I also love to fangirl over books with people who understand exactly what I mean.

What are a few of your favorite Bookstagram accounts?

@lifeinlit
@shotmeinthebook
@xenatine
@ckbookaddicton
@br.enda
@myfriendsarefiction
@spinatale
And I could literally go on forever.

Do you have any tips for new Bookstagram accounts that you wish you knew when you started?
-I would say its completely okay to experiment with photos and play around with editing until you find your style.
-  Also, you don't need any specific prop or camera to start a Bookstagram account.
-For me at least, Natural sunlight is key to a successful photoshoot.
- And finally, interaction with other booksragrammers is very important to build relationships and thats what make Bookstagram so much fun.

Finally thank you so much Melissa for having me ????

Thank YOU so much for stopping by YABC, Mai! We are in love with your account and we cannot wait to see more of your beautiful photos on #bookstagram! ♥
