Welcome to our monthly special feature post, Bookstagrammer Of The Month!

Each month we will be interviewing a different Bookstagrammer  (Book lover/photographer on Instagram) who will share with us a bit of their experience with the #Bookstagram community!

Introducing Joel of @fictionalfates, YABC's Bookstagrammer of the Month!!

Joel Rochester is an eighteen-year-old bisexual biracial book blogger from the UK. A self-titled 'Prince of Stories', he often discusses his recent reads over on his blog and bookstagram. When he's not reading, he's working on his YA fantasy novel, The Dream Prince.

How long have you been part of the Bookstagram community?

It's been just over a year now and let me tell you, it flies so quickly! I remember posting one of my very first photos and now I'm doing so many different things.

Can you tell us a bit about your feed/style and how has it changed
over time?

I used to always take my photos against a white background and the editing was... questionable. But, I feel that seeing other bookstagrammers' posts and the way that they edit their photos has definitely had an effect on my feed. Now, I've got a bit of a vintage thing going on and I like it, but it'll probably change with time. That's one of the things that I love about bookstagram, your feed whenever you want!

What is the silliest thing you've ever done for the sake of a photo?

Oh! This was quite recently, LOL. I submerged my legs in a river to cross to the other side so that I could put Circe on a rock to take a photo of it. The photo did come out nice though and my trousers dried quickly ????

When do you make time for taking photos? Do you usually plan ahead or take photos as you go (daily)?

This actually depends! Most of the time I do set a specific time, put on a playlist and take photos. However, sometimes I just get an idea in the spur of the moment and that's when I take a photo. So, I'd guess a mix of both.

What type of camera do you use?

I use my iPhone 7!

What are some of your favorite props (besides books, of course ;))?

Oh, I really love using bookish candles and bookmarks. Whilst I was a rep for Bookmark'd Tattoos, I also loved using their tattoos for my photos! I think the weirdest prop I've used for a photo to date was my gaming headset for a Warcross inspired photo!

What book/series do you tend to photograph the most?

I think when people think of my account, they tend to think of one or more of these books:
- Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
- Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
- Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
This is mostly because I will never shut up about them AND quite a few of my photos star these amazing books!

Which of your photos is your absolute favorite and why?

I think it's this Jesper cosplay photo of mine!

It's one of those photos where you just feel a bit emotional about. Jesper is a character that I have related to ever since I read Six of Crows and it was the first character that I had seen myself in for a long time so it just felt amazing to become him for a little while!

What is the thing you love most about Bookstagramming?

The community. The bookstagram community is so sweet and kind and everyone is just so supportive. The friends that I've made through bookstagram are some that I'll be friends with for a long time and the opportunities that bookstagram has given me are some I'll never forget!

What are a few of your favorite Bookstagram accounts?

- @thebookwormofnotredame
- @robbyreads
- @paper.seas
- @vanshikasbooks
- @feysbookishworld
- @trufflebooks

Do you have any tips for new Bookstagram accounts that you wish you knew when you started?

- Try different styles of photos and find one that you like the best! When you start is the best time for experimentation and take advantage of that!
- Browse other accounts and pinterest for inspiration, there are a lot of cool things that you can find to get the brain working!
- NATURAL LIGHT IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. Photos look so much better in natural light and it makes editing so much easier!
- Hashtag hashtag hashtag, using them in your photos is also a great way of being noticed.

Thank you so much for stopping by YABC, Joel! We are in love with your account and we cannot wait to see more of your amazing bookish photos on #bookstagram! ♥
