Bookstagrammer of the Month: Bridget of @darkfaerietales_
Welcome to our new monthly special feature post, Bookstagrammer Of The Month!
Each month we will be interviewing a different Bookstagrammer (Book lover/photographer on Instagram) who will share with us a bit of their experience about the Bookstagram community!
Introducing Bridget of @darkfaerietales_, YABC's Bookstagrammer of the Month!!

Bridget has been an avid reader since she was a young adult. Four years ago she joined the blog Darkfaerietales.com and has been reviewing and helping run many fun events for the blog. In May of 2016 she started the bookstagram account @darkfaerietales_ and it has become a huge passion of hers. She has four beautiful children and has been married for 11 years to her wonderful husband!

1. How long have you been part of the Bookstagram community?
I joined the community about a year and a half ago!
2. Can you tell us a bit about your feed/style and how it has changed over time?
Oh this is a fun question! It's funny because my style has changed so much! When I first started I did fairly simple pictures that had very few props. Here are a few examples:
Then I discovered glitter!!! I went through a huge stage where all my flat lays were very busy and filled with sequins of some kind! I also had a black background I use to use:
Then I started using confetti:
During this crazy glitter/confetti time I also starting doing bookstacks which was what I personally feel really got my account started on bookstagram because it made me stand out and be different. This is my very first bookstack picture I ever posted:
My style is slightly different but I still post a lot of bookstacks! Here is a recent one:
Finally last fall I was taking pictures and I accidentally changed the filter on my phone when taking an unboxing picture for owlcrate! I really loved how the picture turned out and I have been using that filter ever since! The glitter went away because it was a lot of work to clean up and it just didn’t really fit my style anymore! When taking pictures I
do stuff that I love and I'm not good at sticking to a theme so my pictures are all very different! But here are some of my favs:
3. What is the silliest thing you've ever done for the sake of a photo?
I have kind of a fun story for this! I had this idea of a picture I wanted to take that featured Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco. The book is a historical fiction so I thought it would be cool to take the picture in front of an old building. As the idea developed I decided to go to the older part of my town and take the picture! I put on a cute dress got all ready and stood in front of a complete strangers house with a knife...
...and had my husband snap a picture!!! I felt like an idiot but it was totally worth it!!!
4. When do you make time for taking photos? Do you usually plan ahead or take photos as you go (daily)?
I do a mix of both! I do have a planner that is full of things I plan to post but I generally post what I feel like! I generally have tons of pictures on hand when I don't feel like doing a photo shoot but I'm also kind of impatient and have a hard time waiting to post a picture I love!
5. What type of camera do you use?
For the longest time I just used my iPhone to take pictures but I just recently got a Canon Rebel T6 camera and I love it!
6. What are some of your favorite props (besides books, of course ;) )?
I have a thing for candles, flowers, pillows and mugs! I like to throw lots of props into pictures and I'm always changing it up because I get bored pretty easily!
7. Which of your photos is your absolute favorite and why?
I think the reason why I love this picture so much is because I had planned it for so long in my mind and it actually turned out just the way I had imagined it (which is pretty rare )! I made the hat and talked my sister into doing my makeup! It was a super fun photo shoot and I just love how all the pictures turned out!
8. What is the thing you love most about Bookstagramming?
The friends I have made is definitely the best part but also I love the taking the pictures! It's amazing that I can create something beautiful and still feature the books I love!
Another amazing thing that has come from bookstagram is the instagram tour company I started with my partner Kristen from @myfriendsarefiction!!! It's called Storygram Tours and it has been such a fun and amazing adventure!
9. What are a few of your favorite Bookstagram accounts?
Oh man I have so many but some of my favorites are @myfriendsarefiction @cbookaddiction @eden.hammond @bookstorefinds @acciobooksncoffee and @xenatine!!! But there are tons others that I love too!!!
10. Do you have any tips for new Bookstagram accounts that you wish you knew when you started?
My biggest piece of advice is to take pictures you love and don't stress about followers or likes! Bookstagram is supposed to be fun and not stressful!
Also I'm planning to do a series of bookstagram tips and tricks videos on my YouTube channel Darkfaerietales_ the first video will be live very soon (if it's not already )
Thank you again for stopping by YABC, Bridget! We absolutely love your account and we cannot wait to see more of your beautiful photos in the bookstagram community!
