Meet War Storm!
VICTORY COMES AT A PRICE.
Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all… starting with the crown on Maven’s head.
But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolishing everything—and everyone—in his path.
War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?
In the epic conclusion to Victoria Aveyard’s stunning series, Mare must embrace her fate and summon all her power… for all will be tested, but not all will survive.
~ Interview ~
YABC: Who is your favorite character in the book?
I like to say I love all my children equally, but I love them in different ways. For example, I love writing Maven, because he's so difficult for me. His motivations and character are incredibly complex, which forces me to be a better writer to depict him in the most truthful way I can. And I've really enjoyed writing Evangeline because I was able to make lots of my audience love a character they started out hating. She's also a very interesting point of view in this world, and a voice we don't usually hear.
YABC: What is your favorite release of 2018?
So far, my heart belongs to The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Technically I read it in ARC form in 2017, but it was released this past January, so I say it counts. I was absolutely bowled over by this story and characters. Not to mention the third act. It's to die for. And in Book 2, The Wicked King, Holly truly outdoes herself.
YABC: What scene in the book are you most proud of and why?
I think my favorite scene I've written in the series is the major twist in RED QUEEN, when the real motivations of a major character are revealed. Not because it was the most difficult scene - in fact this moment flew right out of my head. But because I believe this moment sets up a promise for the rest of the series, and the audience, from this point forward, is now wary of each and every turn in the story. It goes a long way, and has lasting repercussions throughout every installment. It was also the scene I was most excited to get to when writing the very first draft. That moment was definitely a character motivating me through finishing my first book.
YABC: What do you like most about the cover of your books?
The simplicity. I've always gravitated towards simple, striking book covers, and it was a dream come true to get one of my own. It's especially wonderful to see the series develop it's own iconography. The crown covers have become our calling card and I love seeing them all together on a shelf.
YABC: Is there an organization or cause close to your heart?
One of the causes I support as much as I can is the National Parks Foundation, which is the charitable partner to the United States National Parks Service. I'm a huge fan of the NPS and all they do to protect the natural, historic, and cultural treasures of the United States. And I feel that, in current times, these organizations need all the help they can get. I'm also a supporter of the Sierra Club and a big fan of their fight to protect wildlife and our environment.

One of my students was asking me today if I could get a hold of this book for her. She has loved this series. I'm having a hard time keeping enough books on hand for her because she devours them in days!
The cover is cool and fits with the other books in the series. The synopsis makes me want to read more. I really liked the other books in the Red Queen series and I am looking forward to this final book.
I've always loved the covers of these books. Each one just adds more to the series and like Victoria said- they look so great all together in the shelf. I read Red Queen right after it was released and LOVED it! I've read it multiple times and loved it more and more each time. I waited on pins and needles for Glass Sword and preordered King's Cage but couldn't put myself through the agony of waiting for the last book after the epic ending of Glass Sword so I've been waiting for War Storm to marathon the series again and finally read the last two books. I can't wait for the movie either!
I love how the covers stay with the same pattern -- they grow stronger and more fierce as the series moves on. As do the characters. I'm excited to read War Storm.
The synopsis sounds like this will be a great addition to the great series, and the cover matches so nicely with the rest of the series. I really like that quality in covers for series like this..
