Introducing Tracy Wolff, YABC's Author of the Week!
Tracy Wolff is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of sixty-four novels that run the gamut from young adult action adventures to new adult romance and from women's fiction to erotica. A long-time lover of vampires, dragons and all things that go bump in the night, Tracy loves nothing more than combining her affection for paranormal creatures with her love of writing tortured heroes and kick-butt heroines. When she's not writing (which is a rare occurrence), she can be found trying out new recipes, offering make-up tips online, wandering comic book/gaming stores with her sons, and watching movies or plotting stories with her besties. A one time English professor, she now writes full-time from her home in Austin, Texas, which she shares with her family. She also writes as Tracy Deebs and Tessa Adams.
I may have reached my breaking point. As if trying to graduate from a school for supernaturals isn’t stressful enough, my relationship status has gone from complicated to a straight-up dumpster fire.
Oh, and the Bloodletter has decided to drop a bomb of epic proportions on us all...
Then again, when has anything at Katmere Academy not been intense?
And the hits just keep coming. Jaxon’s turned colder than an Alaskan winter. The Circle is splintered over my upcoming coronation. As if things couldn’t get worse, now there’s an arrest warrant for Hudson’s and my supposed crimes which apparently means a lifetime prison sentence with a deadly unbreakable curse.
Choices will have to be made...and I fear not everyone will survive.
The Crave series is best enjoyed in order.
Book #1 Crave
Book #2 Crush
Book #3 Covet
Book #4 Court
~ Author Chat ~
YABC: Which came first, the title or the novel?
The idea for the series came first—I knew I wanted to write a paranormal boarding school series with vampires and dragons and witches, and I started to build the Crave world. But I did come up with the title before I ever really sat down to write the novel—and the titles for Crush, Covet and Court all came before I sat down to write the second book.
YABC: What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
The scenes that take place with the dragons (I can’t say any more than that) are among my favorite scenes in the book. I had so much fun letting my imagination really take the lead and I am so, so excited about how they turned out.
YABC: What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2021?
I’m really looking forward to One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston and Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. I LOVE both of their books so much.
YABC: What was your favorite book in 2020?
I really loved Nalini Singh’s romantic suspense, A Madness of Sunshine. And I also loved Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam.
YABC: What’s up next for you?
I’ve got two books coming out in March, which is super exciting and super intense, lol. The first week of March marks the release of Covet, the third book in my Crave series and I am SO excited about it. I had so much fun digging deeper into Grace’s new world and can’t wait to hear what readers think. Right now, I’m writing the fourth and final book in the series, Court, and having a wonderful time doing it!
At the end of March, Back in the Burbs, a women’s fiction rom-com that I co-wrote with the fabulous Avery Flynn, comes out. It’s the story of a woman who has lost everything in her recent divorce—especially herself—and how she finds herself again (along with a whole new direction for her life).
YABC: Which was the most difficult or emotional scene to narrate?
I actually cried (happy and sad, respectively) tears through the last third of Covet. I don’t want to name any individual scenes because everything that happens there has been building for three books and I don’t want to inadvertently ruin anything for my readers. But a lot goes down in the last 250 pages of the book and it was super emotional for me to write scenes that both exhilarated and gutted me, especially knowing they will do the same for many of my readers.
YABC: Which part of the writing process do you enjoy more: Drafting or Revising?
Oh, I’m all about drafting. I hate revising—I have to do it, of course, but I hate it. I much prefer when the story is brand new because it feels like I’m discovering all the things about my characters and their world. It’s just a lot of fun for me to immerse myself in the story and see where things go.
YABC: What would you say is your superpower?
When it comes to writing? I’m fast. Like really, really fast. I wrote all 290K (that includes bonus scenes for the three different exclusive editions) in a little over two months. It’s part of the whole immerse myself in the story part of writing that I love, where if I’m not writing, I’m constantly thinking about the characters and dying to dive back in so I can see what’s coming next.
YABC: Is there an organization or cause that is close to your heart?
There are several, actually, but the one I’ve been supporting since the pandemic started is Jose Andres’s organization, World Central Kitchen. It’s an incredible organization that focuses on feeding hungry people in the wake of disasters—they did a lot of amazing work in Puerto Rico after the hurricane, which is when I first learned about them, and currently they are working so hard to feed people in America who have suffered job losses and poverty because of the pandemic.
