YABC:   What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

A Vow So Bold and Deadly is the third book in the Cursebreaker series, and I loved having the opportunity to continue the series. It's been so exciting to see readers react to the adventures of Harper, Rhen, Grey, and Lia Mara, especially as the royal intrigues and magical adventures get more daring. I wrote this book mostly during the pandemic, and I tried to pour all of my emotion into the story. It's definitely a roller coaster ride. I can't wait for readers to see where the characters end up!

YABC:   Who is your favorite character in the book?

I love them all! I can't pick!
They both evolved together! We went through a lot of title changes with this one until we landed on the perfect one.

YABC:   What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

There's a scene between Rhen and Grey that was heartbreaking to write.

YABC:   Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?

To keep my eyes on my own paper. It's very easy to lose yourself in comparison to other writers, to worry that you're not writing enough, or not writing the right thing, or not being as successful as you think you should be. The only thing we writers can control is the writing of our own stories. That's it.

YABC:   What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I love the bright red color, and the not-so-hidden crown. It's so vibrant!

YABC:   What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2021?

I can't wait for FOR THE WOLF by Hannah Whitten.

YABC:   What was your favorite book in 2020?

I loved THE BRIDGE by Bill Konigsberg.

YABC:   What’s up next for you?

I have two books coming out in 2021, so my next release will be DEFY THE NIGHT in September 2021. It's completely different from the Cursebreaker series, about a kingdom on the brink of revolution, and a girl who thinks she can save the people by breaking the system from the inside -- only to discover that everything she thought she knew about the royal family was wrong.

YABC:   Is there anything that you would like to add?

YABC:   Which was the most difficult or emotional scene to narrate?

Probably that scene between Rhen and Grey. They have a very tumultuous relationship.

YABC:   Which character gave you the most trouble when writing your latest book?

They all give me trouble from time to time. None of my characters are easy.

YABC:   Which part of the writing process do you enjoy more: Drafting or Revising?

Revising! Drafting is like building a house. Revising is like getting to decorate it.

YABC:    What would you say is your superpower?

Picking the longest line in a store.

YABC:   Is there an organization or cause that is close to your heart?

The Preeclampsia Foundation
