Meet Tiffany D. Jackson!

     

Tiffany D. Jackson is the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Monday’s Not Coming, and Let Me Hear a Rhyme. A Walter Dean Myers Honor Book and Coretta Scott King John Steptoe New Talent Award winner, she received her bachelor of arts in film from Howard University, her master of arts in media studies from the New School, and has over a decade in TV/Film experience. Meet Grown!

Korey Fields is dead.

      YABC:  What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

This book is loosely inspired by the R. Kelly documentary and the criticism directed towards the victims, all young girls. I wanted to tell a story that shed lights on exactly how girls can be groomed and manipulated, erasing all doubt and victim blaming.

 

 

      YABC:  Who is your favorite character in the book?

Enchanted is dear to my heart because I was that type of teen. Wise beyond her years, an old soul, motherly, but also very naive of the world and people’s hidden intentions.

 

 

      YABC:  Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel came first, with a completely different title. LOL! GROWN was my nickname for the book in my files. I have nicknames for all my book children, but this one stuck.

 

 

      YABC:  Do you have a favorite writing snack?

Peanut Butter and strawberry jelly. My favorite all around meal, honestly.

 

 

      YABC:  Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?

Craft is King. I don’t care what anyone says…if your story is GOOD, it’ll sell itself, it will be evergreen. Good writing never goes out of style. And lastly, you front list will sell your back list. Keep writing! 

 

 

     YABC:  What do you like most about the cover of the book?

The bamboo earing of course! It’s a staple in my wardrobe so I was excited to see it on the cover with a gorgeous brown skin girl.

 

      YABC:  What’s up next for you?

My next book is a psychological horror, set in a haunted house called WHITE SMOKE and I’m SO excited about it. I’ve creeped myself out a few times.

 

 

    YABC:  Are there any film adaptations, tv shows, audiobooks, or other adaptations in the works for this book?

Nothing I can talk about publicly yet but there’s stuff happening. You’ll see soon. 

 

    YABC:  Which character gave you the most trouble when writing your latest book?

Korey actually gave me the most trouble. I was trying to balance the feeling of first love with a creepy guy. I can still see the hesitation on the page.  

 

 

      YABC:  What would you say is your superpower?

Is superpower like a party trick? If so, I’m good an identifying a person’s first plot point in their work in progress without even reading their pages. That’s a weird author nerd party trick, but it’s what I got!
