Meet Megan Walker!
Megan Walker was raised on a berry farm in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where her imagination took her to times past and worlds away. While earning her degree in Early Childhood Education, she married her one true love and started a family. But her imaginings of Regency England wouldn't leave her alone, so she picked up a pen. And the rest is history. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her husband and three children.
Meet Lakeshire Park!
Amelia Moore wants only one thing—to secure the future happiness of her younger sister, Clara. With their stepfather’s looming death, the two sisters will soon be on their own—without family, a home, or a penny to their names. When an invitation arrives to join a house party at Lakeshire Park, Amelia grasps at the chance. If she can encourage a match between Clara and their host, Sir Ronald, then at least her sister will be taken care of.
Little does she know that another guest, the arrogant and overconfident Mr. Peter Wood, is after the same goal for his own sister. Amelia and Peter begin a rivalry that Amelia has no choice but to win. But competing against Peter—and eventually playing by his rules—makes Amelia vulnerable to losing the only thing she has left to claim: her heart.
~ Author Chat ~
YABC: Who is your favorite character in the book?
Amelia. She's lost everything, but she's fighting for what is most important to her--her family. I love her courage and perseverance in hardship.
YABC: Which came first, the title or the novel?
The novel! I actually titled it "Only Amelia" originally from a line of Amelia's internal thoughts where she's thinking about how life could be different had others in her life made different choices. She says something like, "what if I was only Amelia?" Without worries, or misfortune. But Lakeshire Park ultimately fit the story better!
YABC: Do you have a favorite writing snack?
Chocolate. And I've been obsessed with Dr. Pepper Cream Soda.
YABC: Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?
To let myself write freely without self-editing. Sometimes I get so caught up in perfecting my prose right from the start, I don't let my words just flow. My best and favorite scenes are those that have come to me so clearly, and I just write them out in a flash and edit them later.
YABC: What do you like most about the cover of the book?
The color scheme. The sky, the greenery. So many thanks to Shadow Mountain's team for creating the most beautiful cover in the world.
YABC: What’s up next for you?
I'm currently writing a super fun regency romance with a little mystery mixed in. My heroine is quite the opposite of Amelia, but I can't wait to see where her story leads me. I also have a cute novella coming out in August! It's outlined, but not written, so I have some exciting work ahead!
YABC: Which part of the writing process do you enjoy more: Drafting or Revising?
Drafting! I love dreaming up scenes and writing the "firsts." Getting started is the hardest part for me, though. I get an idea in my head and I'm impatient to start, but getting to know your characters, their backgrounds, motivations, loves, is all key to writing a good story.
YABC: Is there an organization or cause that is close to your heart?
Premature births are close to my heart. My third child Simon was born at 26 weeks gestation and we spent his entire life--five months--in the NICU. I truly see NICU's as holy places, and I try to donate and give time to our local children's hospital as much as I can, especially on Simon's birthday and angel-versary.
