Meet Adventure Against the Endermen!

After discovering a portal to Earth and battling the evil Herobrine and his army of vicious mobs, Steve and his friends are known throughout the Overworld as heroes. Stevie’s enjoying the attention―that is, until he tries to show off and instead falls down a mineshaft. At the bottom of the mineshaft, Stevie finds an Ender crystal with mysterious powers.
Soon the Overworld is in danger once again, this time from vicious Endermen! Mayor Alexandra summons Stevie, Alex, Maison, Yancy, and Destiny to try and stop the attacks. When the friends investigate, they quickly realize that the Endermen are looking for something. Could it be Stevie’s Ender crystal?
Soon the group of friends―now an Overworld task force―are caught up in a battle larger than any they could have imagined. Can they protect the world of Minecraft from Endermen―and the larger threat of the crystal?
Fans of Minecraft will race to the end of this first installment in the Unofficial Overworld Heroes Adventure series by Danica Davidson!

A Chat with Danica Davidson:

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

Adventure Against the Endermen is the first book in my spinoff series. My Overworld Adventures series (Escape from the Overworld, Attack on the Overworld, The Rise of Herobrine, Down into the Nether, The Armies of Herobrine and Battle with the Wither) introduce us to Stevie, an 11-year-old boy in Minecraft, and the adventures he goes on with his friends from Minecraft and Earth. Essentially, these are adventure novels that just happen to take place as if the beloved game Minecraft is a real world. This new series, which is also six books, picks up right after Battle with the Wither and still has Stevie and all his friends, but they go on new adventures and have to face new villains.

The first idea I had for this spinoff series is going back into the history of the Overworld. Stevie will have to uncover a mystery that’s thousands of years old and explains how the Overworld got to be the way it is today — and why it’s still in so much danger. Coming up with the back story really inspired me and was a lot of fun!

Who is your favorite character in the book?

I’m not very good at picking favorites, but a new character is introduced in this book, and she’s the villain. She was technically in the last series very briefly, but this is when we’re going to learn all about her. The arc of her story is going to span all six books.

Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel, definitely. I had the general idea of each book (but hadn’t written them yet) when my publisher asked me for titles. So I tried to come up with action-y titles to go with each book’s theme.

What’s up next for you?

I’ve been working on the rest of the series. I just finished the fourth book, Clash in the Underwater World, where Stevie and his friends have to go to an ocean monument and face the guardians and elder guardians. I have two more books in this series to go, and my book Manga Art for Intermediates, a sequel to Manga Art for Beginners, is coming out this spring. I’ve also written Barbie and Tales from the Crypt comics, so I like to write in all different styles. We’ll see what comes next!

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I’m trying to pace the series so all the mysteries aren’t told right away, and I hope I’m doing a good job at them. Each book in this series is a self-contained story, but they build up and everything is going to get revealed in the end.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I think it’s an exciting cover. You can see Stevie, who narrates the books, with his diamond sword and . . wait, what’s that other thing he’s holding and why does it matter? The book will go into that.

It also shows his cousin, Alex, and she’s the best archer under twelve around. You can also see the Endermen sneaking up on them, and they are not there to be anyone’s friends.

Is there anything that you would like to add?

My Overworld Adventure series, which started all the adventures with Stevie and his friends, is also coming out as a box set November 7. Please keep up with my website (www.danicadavidson.com) or follow me on Twitter @DanicaDavidson for more book news. Thanks!

Is there an organization or cause that is close to your heart?

There are a lot of things I care about, and one of the things I talk about in these books, especially the first series, is cyberbullying. Stevie, who is from another world and is like an anthropologist looking at Earth and its idiosyncrasies, is struck by how the internet can give people all the information and help they desire . . . but too often, people use the internet for negative reasons, like lashing out anonymously against other people, or blowing petty things out of proportion, or spending so much time comparing yourself to stuff you read on the internet that it takes away the focus from real life. I think many of us can have healthier lifestyles when it comes to the online world.
