Read on for more about BonHyung, her book, plus an giveaway!

Meet BonHyung Jeong!

BonHyung Jeong (Bon) studied Cartooning at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and Kyle's Little Sister is her debut graphic novel, made possible with the help of numerous people. She hopes to make connections with others through relatable stories. Currently living in Korea, she's always busy playing console games - exactly like someone in the book!

Meet Kyle's Little Sister!

My name is Grace, not "Kyle's little sister!"

Having a good-looking, friendly, outgoing older brother sucks—especially when you're the total opposite, someone who likes staying home and playing video games. Your parents like him better (even if they deny it!), and everyone calls you "Kyle's little sister" while looking disappointed that you're not more like him. I was really hoping I'd get to go to a different middle school, but no such luck. At least I have my friends...until he finds a way to ruin that, too...! Argh! What do I have to do to get out of his shadow?!

~ Author Chat ~

YABC:  Who is your favorite character in the book?

I think it’s hard to pick. I like to draw Grace and Kyle, but in terms of personality, I like Liam and Jay.

YABC:  Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel. I didn’t decide on the title until I finished the sketches. I knew there would be “Little Sister” in the title, but the final decision on Kyle’s Little Sister as the title came later on.

YABC:  What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I like when Kyle stands up for Grace. ‘cause it shows that he is not that bad of a brother to her. He is just…you know, a typical brother who likes to bother his sister! Other than that, I think…I really liked drawing scenes with the basketball court. I am proud of the job I did on the nets and the other finer details. Haha!

YABC:  What do you like most about the cover of the book?

That everyone looks cheerful (except Grace)! The colors and the fonts…everything! I want to give full credit to Wendy Chan, the Yen Press Art Director, who designed it, but she keeps telling me my art is what makes the cover great. I don’t think the Kyle’s Little Sister cover would look as great as it does now with only my art.

YABC:  What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2021?

The Tea Dragon Tapestry! I read The Tea Dragon Society, and I remember how sweet it was. I didn’t realize it was a series, but I saw that the third installment came out. I’d like to read it when I get the chance.

YABC:  What was your favorite book in 2020?

The School Nurse Files. I’m still working on it, but the story is about a school nurse who can see some unnaturals trying to figure out things around her. There is also a drama on Netflix. I haven’t watched it though, but I want to do so soon.

YABC:  What’s up next for you?

I would like to continue my career as a cartoonist and make another great graphic novel.

YABC:  Which character gave you the most trouble when writing your latest book?

Grace. Since she is the main character, it was hard to create all the events and incidents that take place around her. I felt bad for her because she had to go through all that she went through by herself.

YABC:  Which part of the writing process do you enjoy more: Drafting or Revising?

I enjoyed revising more. When starting Kyle’s Little Sister, I didn’t know how the story would end since it wasn’t finished yet. While revising the story, even though it was painful to fix what I had already been working on, I liked how it got better each time.

YABC:  What would you say is your superpower?

I think it's time control. I feel like time goes so fast these days. I wanna stop or make time slower so I can spend my 24 hours more efficiently!
