Meet The Ever After!
Amanda Hocking, the New York Times bestselling author of The Kanin Chronicles, returns to the magical world of the Trylle Trilogy with The Ever After, the final novel in The Omte Origins arc.
Ulla Tulin has lost a month of her life. Her journey to learn who her parents are has brought her to the attention of the Älvolk sect—and a man claiming to be her father. But instead of a long lost family reunion, Ulla has forgotten her time there, and fears something terrible happened.
The Älvolk released Ulla alive for one reason only, to exchange her for a rare flower with mystical properties. Determined to break her amnesia, Ulla risks her life against a dark enchantment capable of killing her to remember the Älvolk’s secrets—to use the flower as part of an incantation that will open the bridge to Alfheim, the First City.
But opening the bridge will unleash a menagerie of monstrous creatures upon Earth that will consume everything in their path. Knowing she may lose Pan Soriano, the love of her life, Ulla nevertheless gathers an army of Trylle to stand with her and defend humanity as well as her own kind. And it is Ulla’s very heritage that holds the key to victory.

YABC: What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
I went back to the roots of my favorite stories, looking at old folklore, particularly Nordic. This book is set in an existing world that I’ve created, so obviously I took inspiration from the other books, but I also really looked back at some of my original inspirations, including Peter Pan and the Grimms Brothers fairy tales.
YABC: Who is your favorite character in the book?
In THE EVER AFTER, my favorite is Ulla. I also really loved writing some of the returning the characters from the past series - it was like catching up with an old friend.
YABC: Which came first, the title or the novel?
Definitely the novel. There’s been a few books where I had the title right away, but most of them time I feel like I struggle to find a name. But I do think all the struggle was worth it because I think THE EVER AFTER is the perfect finale title.
YABC: Do you have a favorite writing snack?
I’ve been trying to eat healthier and take better care of myself, so I usually go for something basic - granola bar or nuts or string cheese. I also have an occasional Red Bull, but I make sure to drink a lot of water.
YABC: What do you like most about the cover of the book?
The thing I am most excited about is that Ulla is a plus-sized heroine of a fantasy novel, and she looks so beautiful and powerful.
YABC: What’s a book you’ve recently read and loved?
I’ve been on a big gothic/Victorian kick lately, and I really loved Kerri Manniscalco’s KINGDOM OF THE WICKED and Emily A. Duncan’s first two books in the SOMETHING DARK AND HOLY trilogy.
YABC: What’s up next for you?
I’m working on a few exciting things that I hope to announce soon!
YABC: Which was the most difficult or emotional scene to narrate?
There’s a scene toward the end of the book - I can’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it. But I never cry or get emotional when I’m writing, but I did when I was writing that scene.
YABC: Which part of the writing process do you enjoy more: Drafting or Revising?
Revising, for sure. For more, drafting is just building the bones of the story, but revisions is where it gets really meaty.
YABC: Is there an organization or cause that is close to your heart?
There’s a lot of charities I like, but the one I am the most involved in is a little rodent sanctuary called The Pipsqueakery. They help small mammals - and a few birds - of all sizes, from teeny tiny baby mice to giant abused capybaras. I really love them because I’ve always had a special fondness for rodents, and I like that they help the animals are often overlooked by other organizations.
