Meet Alexandra Monir!
ALEXANDRA MONIR is the author of five published young adult novels, including the time-travel romance, Timeless (an Amazon Best Book of the Month and Barnes & Noble Bestseller) and its sequel, Timekeeper, as well as the thrillers Suspicion and The Girl in the Picture. HarperTeen will publish her upcoming science fiction novel, The Final Six, on March 6, 2018, with Sony Pictures developing the film adaptation. Alexandra is additionally a professional recording artist and composer. She lives in Marina Del Rey, CA with her husband and baby boy.
Set in the near future, this action-packed YA novel—already optioned by Sony Pictures—will take readers out of this world and on a quest to become one of six teens sent on a mission to Jupiter’s moon. This is the next must-read for fans
of Illuminae and The Martian.
When Leo and Naomi are drafted, along with twenty-two of the world’s brightest teenagers, into the International Space Training Camp, their lives are forever changed. Overnight, they become global celebrities in contention for one of the six slots to travel to Europa—Jupiter’s moon—and establish a new colony, leaving their planet forever. With Earth irreparably damaged, the future of the human race rests on their shoulders.
For Leo, an Italian championship swimmer, this kind of purpose is a reason to go on after losing his family. But Naomi, an Iranian-American science genius, is suspicious of the ISTC and the fact that a similar mission failed under mysterious circumstances, killing the astronauts onboard. She fears something equally sinister awaiting the Final Six beneath Europa’s surface.
In this cutthroat atmosphere, surrounded by strangers from around the world, Naomi finds an unexpected friend in Leo. As the training tests their limits, Naomi and Leo’s relationship deepens with each life-altering experience they encounter.
But it’s only when the finalists become fewer and their destinies grow nearer that the two can fathom the full weight of everything at stake: the world, the stars, and their lives.
A Chat with Alexandra Monir:
1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
It was one of those magical moments in the life of a writer, when inspiration strikes in the most unlikely time and place! I was listening to a radio interview with an aspiring astronaut, who was applying to be a candidate for an experimental mission to colonize Mars, when an idea suddenly hit me: what if the conditions on Earth were to make this type of quest no longer voluntary—but an urgent, government-mandated mission, complete with a military-style draft? And what if those believed to have the highest odds of surviving this mission, and remaining fertile by the time the new planet is terraformed and ready for colonization, are the teenagers? Once it hit me, I was off and running!
2. Who is your favorite character in the book?
Naomi Ardalan, the female lead and the brains of the operation! She is the first protagonist I've written who shares my Iranian-American heritage, and there is so much of myself woven into her character. Naomi is a big reason why The Final SIx is the book of my heart!
3. Which came first, the title or the novel?
The story came to me first, and then it took a little while before I settled on a title. I was initially calling it The Departing, until I realized that could get confused with the Martin Scorsese movie The Departed! :)
4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
I'd have to say the action scenes! This is the first action-oriented novel I've written, and I really pushed myself to make those scenes as strong, gripping, and believable as possible.
5. What do you like most about the cover of the book?
I LOVE this cover- it’s hard to pick a favorite element! But it would probably be the awesome light flares that stand in for the letter "I." They make the title look so awesome!
6. What was your favorite book in 2017?
The authors who blurbed THE FINAL SIX actually ALL had amazing books come out in 2017! Kendare Blake’s One Dark Throne was a brilliantly satisfying sequel, and Romina Russell’s Thirteen Rising was a gorgeously-written ending to her Zodiac series. Beth Revis also came out with one of the best Star Wars novels, Rebel Rising.
7. What new release are you looking forward to most in 2018?
The new Nova Ren Suma novel, A Room Away from the Wolves. I was so blown away by her last book, The Walls Around Us, and I find her to be one of the most creative writers in YA.
8. What’s up next for you?
I'm currently writing the sequel to The Final Six, plus developing some other projects that I'm excited to share soon!
9. Is there anything that you would like to add?
I'm offering a special gift pack for everyone who pre-orders The Final Six before release day, March 6th- which includes your choice of a FREE signed book from my backlist! (2 books for the price of 1!) Details on my website: www.alexandramonir.com/pre-order
The Final Six

The storyline seems more original than the cover design, which is not memorable IMHO (although it is attractive). I want to read this one, to be clear!
This looks so awesome! I love anything to do with space, so I can't wait to read this!! It's also really great that you're representing your heritage through a character
