Backpack Explorer: Rock Hunt has something of interest for children of any age!
I love rocks, my children love rocks, this book was a big win for all of us!
The book explains classifications, has discovery zone pages with facts all about landforms, rocks, gems and fossils. Rock Hunt will pair wonderfully for our lesson on rock cycles, and would be a great addition to gem stone advent calendars!
There is also information about finding rocks at home/school in items you'd never guess were rocks, such as drinking glass, pencil lead, and aluminum foil!
There are lots of fun hands on learning ideas! From rock pirates to pet rocks, the interactive lessons are great!
The rock hound journal near the end is awesome. This was a fun way for us to keep track of items we found at the different beaches we visited.
