About the Book: A Sucker For You
Vampire-witch hybrid Tansy Mariotti has exactly one goal: to stop her mother’s Vegas wedding.
It’s not because she hates weddings. It’s not because the groom is her boyfriend’s dad (although yuck). It’s not even because Vegas weddings are cliché as hell. It’s because her mom is an evil incarnate vamp known as The Executioner. Nothing good can come of someone marrying a person named The Executioner. Nothing.
With the help of her werewolf boyfriend, her bestie, her granny’s no-crave-blood tonic, and her favorite stake—a drumstick—Tansy is Vegas-bound and ready to raise hell, all while hoping her witch side can keep her fangs at bay. Only suddenly, her witch side is fading…fast.
Tansy’s running out of time to stop her mom and save herself—before what happens in Vegas stakes in Vegas.
YABC: What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
I wrote a partial of the first book a long time ago and then had other books to write under contract, but it was always in the back of my mind. This book’s setting came about because I was invited to the Las Vegas Book Festival a few years ago and after that visit, I knew I wanted to write something paranormal set in Las Vegas, even though Tansy, Vaughn, and friends are just visiting.
YABC: Who is your favorite character in the book?
I love them all! Granny Mariotti is a favorite, but I love the supportive women of the Old Crones Book Club slash coven. Tansy is really special to me because she’s so loyal and snarky and a badass, even though she doesn’t really want to be. I even like my villains, but I have to admit some stuff in A Sucker for You was very satisfying to write.
YABC: Which came first, the title or the novel?
The novel. A Sucker for You was always a planned trilogy and I had the title of the first book, but it took me awhile to realize I wanted to play on musical genres/song titles, then it took even longer to come up with a title that kind of matched The Drainers’ transformations/new sounds.
YABC: What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
I’m really proud of the ending of A Sucker for You, which is also the series ending. The scene is a mirror image of the beginning of The Afterlife of the Party, Afterlife #1, but so much has happened to Skyler, Vaughn, and Tansy. I wanted it to be full of hope. Tansy is a survivor and I wanted that to be reflected in the ending. I have to admit I cried a little.
YABC: Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
Persistence. Publishing is a tough business and seems to only be getting tougher. And I always try to set goals for the quarter/year so that I have some accountability, especially if I don’t have a looming deadline for a contracted book.
YABC: What do you like most about the cover of the book?
Everything. The covers in this trilogy are on fire. I love the brilliant colors, the lettering, and the subtle clues.
YABC: What’s up next for you?
I’m working on an adult Rom Com inspired by one of my fandoms and a teen mystery. I read almost every genre, so I always want to write in different genres. YA is my first love, though.
YABC: Which character gave you the most trouble when writing your latest book?
Beckett because I really just wanted to make him the star sometimes.
YABC: What would you say is your superpower?
The power of not letting disappointments stop me from achieving. The power to take a no and not let it ruin my week (It might ruin my day, though.)
YABC: What advice do you have for new writers?
Join an organization where you can meet other writers. Go to cons, even virtual ones. If you can’t afford it, look for free stuff. Many authors have great information on their website.
