About the Book: HOW CARROT AND COOKIE SAVED CHRISTMAS
A festive pun-filled story perfect for the holidays!
In this follow-up to When Carrot Met Cookie, Christmas is fast approaching, and Carrot and Cookie are both worried—they can’t find the right present for each other! But when they hear a crash on Christmas Eve and find a sick Santa too ill to keep flying his sleigh, they know there are more important matters at hand. Can these friends conjure up enough Christmas magic to step into Santa’s shoes, deliver the presents themselves, and save the day?
Hilarious and heartwarming, this is the perfect gift for future foodies or anyone looking for some special holiday cheer.

YABC: What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
Inspiration can strike at any time! In this case, I was in the home section of Anthropologie (yup, the store) when I saw a holiday tray with a section for cookies for Santa and a section for carrots for his reindeer. As the author of WHEN CARROT MET COOKIE, I thought this was funny so I snapped a photo. But then I thought, hmmm… what are the holidays like for Carrot and Cookie? And I started noodling on this new book idea.
YABC: Who is your favorite character in the book?
I laugh every time at Rudolph the red-nosed radish.
YABC: What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
The art is amazing and hilarious, but my illustrator, Jonathan Fenske, deserves all the credit. In terms of my own contributions, I’m proud of the word play. My favorite moment is when Carrot and Cookie ice the (gingerbread) reindeers’ boo-boos… with icing.
YABC: If you could only write one genre for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Humor, although I would argue that humor isn’t really a genre. I like to put humor in almost all of my writing, whether I am working on an upbeat, cozy picture book like this one, or a comic mystery novel, or a fun-filled work of non-fiction (I am, after all, the author of the True or Lie series!).
YABC: What is your favorite snack when writing?
Popcorn. I also like stale red Twizzlers.
YABC: If you were able to meet them, would you be friends with your main character?
Absolutely! I love cookies and carrots. (Okay, I like cookies more than carrots, but don’t tell Carrot.)
YABC: What is your favorite holiday or tradition and why?
I love holiday traditions! For example, I am Jewish and I love to celebrate The Ninth Night of Hanukkah (which I wrote a book about), though you do not have to be Jewish to celebrate it. It just involves saying thanks to the helpers in your life.
And I especially love traditions that involve books! My hope is that families read and share HOW CARROT AND COOKIE SAVED CHRISTMAS and other special books as part of their holiday celebrations.
YABC: Is there anything that you would like to add?
Yes! Happy holidays from Carrot and Cookie and me!
