ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT is an engaging picture book that celebrates all the people who work through the night to keep everything running. The book is told from the perspective of a child whose mother works at night, so when they are getting ready for bed, their mother is having breakfast. Their mother drives a bus, but the book discusses many other jobs that are done at night, such as security, cleaning, hospital staff, police officers, and more.

What I loved: This is a really engaging way to introduce different kinds of job to children, who might not realize all the things that happen while they are asleep. The book gives names to the people who are working these jobs, using simple phrasing that will work for young children to bring these jobs to life. It's a great way to teach about something new, and it works well here. The images are full page with plenty of color and details to give children a lot to explore as they read each page. It also shows the people at work in small action scenes to bring to life what these jobs look like. As a small thing, seeing a mother be the one that starts off the conversation about employment was also great to see with a small rep that is always important - as well as the father staying home with the child.

What left me wanting more: As a very small thing, the text is rather small and jumps around the pages a lot, so it was easy to miss a line or two here and there. It also would have been nice to have a switch to white font on some pages with darker night backgrounds.

Final verdict: An educational and exciting glimpse into nighttime jobs, ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT is an engaging picture book that will work well for preschoolers and young elementary school aged children.
