Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood...

This novel is terribly tedious and horrendously written. I never say this, but the movie was far far better.
The plot was non-existent and the characters transparent and not fleshed out at all. Nicholas Sparks is very overrated.

Once upon a time...this book wrecked me. Then, it rebuilt me.

A tasteful contemporary young adult story full of heart, in a world tired of cheap counterfeits. The plot builds like a melody and resounds long after its come to a close. (Although this -is- a Nicholas Sparks book, so there's as much tragedy to be had as there is romance.) If you can get past the ugly cry, the lingering impression is a sweet one.

Today I find it far more realistic than I initially gave it credit for. I originally read it when I was 17 (the height of angst), and thought 'wouldn't that be nice, if it were actually possible for people to love like that.' A year later, this reader happened to find that kind of love.

I'm thankful for books like this. Without me realizing it, it helped me to understand what I was looking for in a counterpart, and solidified my decision not to settle for less.

Honestly im a Sparks fan and this was no exception. It is my favorite. I really like the plot and developement of character and how the mature throughout the story. Especially Landon (I also really like he name). I want to be like Jamie who takes what lemons she has been given and just does the best that she can. I wanted her to get all of her dreams though and I like how Landon tried to help her accomplish her dreams. The movie adaption was pretty good too.

The book starts out with Landon the popular teenager in school  is threatened with expulsion after getting into an unfortunate incident. He enters into a afterschool acivity the spring musical where he meets Jamie. He has trouble learning his lines in the play he asks Jamie for her help. She helps him, but tells him to promise not to fall in love with her. As the story goes on his freinds are disapointed with him of choosing Jamie over there freindship. Jamie is the character in the book who loves school and learning she teaches him how to love, two totally opposites who attract. What I loved most about this book was that it was not ur typical romantic ending where the couple lives happily ever after, the end. What Nicholas Sparks taught me in this book is that you learn from life experiences and move on but you never forget you always remeber them.

When I first saw the movie I just know this book had to be in my reading list. A story full with faith, miracles, and the beauty of first love.  Landon Carter is a son of a rich family and popular doesnt expect to fall in love with Jamie Sullivan, daughter of the Beaufort church minister Hegbert Sullivan. And why will he Jamie doesnt exactly fall into that his category. But soon after they share a realtionship falling falling deep each day. Not knowing that Jamie has leukemia. The doesnt  have a happing ending but its truly a beautiful book.

I really like this book, is one of the most touching books I´ve ever read. The story is excellent, the writing amazing and the characters are lovely and really well developed.
It is a very powerful story full of moments that make you feel. So strong and beautiful that is impossible not to like it and to cry while reading it.
An excellent story about true and pure love that must be read.

Nicholas sparks is the most intellegent writer most likely known to man. Really...if he can become a 17 year old boy again and put that much thought and heart into just one book and make it so BEAUTIFUL, then I say that you can truly call him amazing.
Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan take an adventure to all their hopes and dreams in this heartwarming and wonderful story about two teenage kids from two different worlds that in some way possible and every way possible fall in love. They teach each other things they didn't know they could ever learn. Keep reading as their love and friendship builds and falls apart in so many ways.
this book is a garunteed way to wet your tear ducts!  :'-(
