In the realm of Awara, where gods, monsters, and humans exist side by side, Miuko is an ordinary girl resigned to a safe, if uneventful, existence as an innkeeper’s daughter.

But when Miuko is cursed and begins to transform into a demon with a deadly touch, she embarks on a quest to reverse the curse and return to her normal life. Aided by a thieving magpie spirit and continuously thwarted by a demon prince, Miuko must outfox tricksters, escape demon hunters, and negotiate with feral gods if she wants to make it home again.

With her transformation comes power and freedom she never even dreamed of, and she’ll have to decide if saving her soul is worth trying to cram herself back into an ordinary life that no longer fits her… and perhaps never did.

I had so much fun with this book. The beginning to the very end I was hooked and couldn't get enough. At the beginning, we are introduced to Miuko who doesn't quite fit into the hold. She's too loud and too opinionated for her time and that's what makes her perfect. After coming across a curse from a demon that slowly transforms her into a deadly demon herself, Miuko's life isn't quite the same. Miuko sets out on a journey to rid the curse and return to her normal life but is thwarted almost every step by a demon who took over the actual Prince! This was joyous from beginning to end. The people and creatures Miuko comes across her journey really help her and teaches her a lot about herself. I honestly can't go on about how this book made me laugh and how I itched to read it every time I had to put it down. It was constantly by my side in case I could still 5 minutes to read.

Miuko was just beyond amazing. Her character really shined and I loved her so much. Miuko is the perfect example of just someone you know you're going to love as soon as you read the first line. She is funny, caring, and smart. Her journey is really more of a self discovery journey for herself and I loved seeing her transform -- well not transform into a killing demon, but her personality transformation. Even though I wouldn't really call it a transformation because it is who she was the entire time. Miuko's companions are just as entertaining and really helped guide her on her journey.

Overall, A Thousand Steps Into Night by Traci Chee was such a fun and exciting adventure. I loved it from start to finish and looked for any excuse to read this book. The pacing and the connections were wonderfully executed. Miuko was a great main character with such a distinctive voice. She is one that instantly connects with the reader. All of Miuko's companions were fantastic as well and fun. I highly recommend this story for anyone who enjoys fantasy and demons! It truly is a fun experience.
