that huge window, their careful aunt, their dead uncle, coiunt olaf trying to get them!!! whats not to like about this book? it makes your heart race but also makes you feel kind and soft in the same chapter.these kids have gone through something terrible yet you always read of a smile on there face , a good time their having or how adventourous their life is. this book is a big thumbs up on reading

This dark, atmospherica series definitely isn't for sensitive younger readers, but the compelling story of the three orphans and their nemesis Count Olaf will delight readers who love unusual, vivid tales.

Sometimes a series will start to go down in quality after the first couple books. A series of unfortunete events, I am pleased to note, is not. Wide Window might be the best yet.

wow
in the third book of the series of unfortunate events books continues to tell the tale of the baudelair orphans as only mr. snicket can.
with light humer that keeps me interestested you'll eat up this book from start to finish.
this books tell the chapter of the orphans life spent with their aunt josephine, who is easily my favourite relative.
i love all the books in this series especially the second one but this is my sentimental favourite as this on mad me cry.

The tragic saga of the Baudelaire orphans continues as the well-meaning but oblivious Mr. Poe places the three children in the care of a distant relative, "Aunt" Josephine. Aunt Josephine is caring, intelligent, obsessed with grammar, and polyphobic. Her multitudinous fears make her an inept guardian, and certainly no match for the "kindly" Captain Sham, whom everyone but Aunt Josephine and Mr. Poe will immediately recognize as Count Olaf in disguise. Of course, tragedy ensues.
I felt that this book had dropped a half-notch in quality from the first two books of the series. The pace seemed rushed and the plot sketchy, while Aunt Josephine and Mr. Poe were too thick and gullible to be credible. The scene where a fire is started by concentrating moonlight with telescope lenses is physically impossible, and I would bet that many of the younger readers will know this, or learn it quickly, from experience. The first two books gave me the impression that they flowed right from the author's imagination, whereas this one felt like it was driven by, "Oh, it's time for me to write another book, so I'd better do it."

Now that I have my gripes out of the way, I want to make it clear that I still feel this to be a good story that was fun to read. It just did not quite meet the high standards set by the first two books of the series.

Well, it is the first book I read from the Unfortunate events serie. I liked it very much, because the story is fresh and funny (not the theme, of course ;) and because I liked the way of writing of Lemony (and of course, because, after that, I started learning how to make knots ;).
To be frank, I chose it because the title in french (Ouragan sur le lac = hurricane on the lake) pleased me :)

A good spendtime !

If you want to read the series you can not avoid this book. Allthough it is one of the darkest of his books it is still good. I would read it to get to number four which gets much better. Read this and continue the wonderful series that follows and you will not be dissapointed in any way, shape, or form! CW
