Little Ferry feels like no one notices her. She isn’t strong like Tugboat or fast like Speedboat or graceful like Sailboat, the boats everyone loves to watch. But Little Ferry is special, too! She’s patient and careful and always on time. And when disaster flares on Wildlife Island, Little Ferry finds that her quiet traits are the very ones that will help her finally stand out and save the day.

A LITTLE FERRY TALE is a sweet picture book about embracing yourself as you are. Little Ferry wishes she could be like Tugboat, who was rough and fearless, Speedboat who is so fast, or Sailboat, who is carefree and graceful. She tries to be like them, but she just is not able. However, when disaster strikes a little island, Tugboat, Speedboat, and Sailboat are unable to help. Luckily, Little Ferry realizes she is made is for that - and she is glad about it!
What I loved: This is a really sweet story about embracing your strengths and being true to yourself. Little Ferry is adorable as she carries people back and forth. There is certainly something to be said for her quiet dependability, as Little Ferry comes to learn. The plot works well to demonstrate the lessons to young readers as they watch Little Ferry come to the realizations around her own strengths. The disaster is relatively tame with a focus on how Little Ferry saves all the animals by being herself.
The illustrations are very cute, bringing all the boats to life, and the diverse people are also great to see. The text is clear and easy to read, and the pages turn quickly enough that this will work well for toddlers and up.
Final verdict: LITTLE FERRY is a charming story about being true to yourself and embracing your own strengths. Highly recommend for toddlers and preschoolers.
