A DAY FOR SANDCASTLES is a clever picture book that captures a day at the beach for a family. The pictures are shown in comic book style with several panels on each page. 3 siblings are thrilled to go to the beach for the day, and they work on building a sandcastle together. However, nature seems to conspire against them in their project. As the day continues, they eventually create something amazing before it is time to go home.

What I loved: This is a great pick for young imaginations, whether able to read yet or not, as it allows children to craft their own narrative based on the images they see. The images are detailed and will spark reader's creativity as they imagine the day, the conversations, and what is happening at the beach. The overarching story is clear enough that children can follow the images along to create a cohesive story, and this is a really unique idea.

Final verdict: A clever and imaginative picture book, A DAY FOR SANDCASTLES is a story told entirely through pictures to capture a family trip to the beach.
