Kai's summer changes when she gets a summer internship at the Smithsonian. She has always wanted to get in touch with her Navajo heritage ever since she learned she was adopted. Working with the Navajo collection is the perfect solution until the artifacts start to go missing. She is sent to the dig site to investigate who is taking the sacred items and why. She is thrown into a world of deception and intrigue, and stumbles onto a decades old mystery that she believes is connected with her parents. Kai must catch the thief and uncover the mystery before the archaeology site is turned over to the pipeline that is going through their land.
This story really pulls you in and makes you wonder who is behind the artifact disappearances and why. I loved the plot twist when Kai discovers a connection about the current thefts and how they are tied to her past. The author really makes an archaeological dig come alive with her descriptions of the area and of the food on the Navajo reservation.
