13 Little Blue Envelopes Hot

This is one of my favorite books ever! I love a book that takes me on a trip, and this took me on one wild ride across England! Ginny goes on this pre-planned adventure that her aunt has set up for her, but it does not exactly go as planned. Keith and all of his friends were hillarious, and I found myself crying at some of the things Ginny was finding out about her aunt.

I read very few books that aren't paranormal, but something about this book screamed 'buy me' from the shelf. I did, and I loved it. I can't wait for the second one to be released. One of my favorite books.
I could see myself traveling around following the advice on note cards that my relative left me. It sounds like so much fun, and she gets into so many different things along the way!

Summary : Virginia (Ginny) Blackstone is a seventeen year old teenage girl with a dead aunt. Her aunt died from an illness (not said in the book). She then receives 13 little blue envelopes from when her aunt was alive. Her aunt wrote, in those envelopes, steps on an incredible journey. From Britain, to Paris, to Greece, Amsterdam and more. Ginny meets Keith. They become kind of boyfriend and girlfriend.

My Opinion : This books from author Maureen Johnson was good. Not great, nor incredible, but good. I'm not much of a fan of books about adventures, but at least there was some romance. I like how Ginny was; her personality. Well, good book! I have heard there is a sequel and it's already on my to-read shelf.


Characters : Keith would be my favorite character of the book. I liked how he was introduced as a musical producer. And that Ginny gave him money, that he wondered why and began to know her better.


Ginny was a nice main character! I liked her energy and the way the thought. I like how timid she is around boys; I thought it was quite cute.


Aunt Peg looked a lot of fun! I don't know why I got that impression... right... she's eccentric!


Richard was a sweet guy and it didn't really impress me that he and Aunt Peg were dating, and married.


Of course, there are other characters... tons of them! Like Olivia, the lesbian girl who didn't tell her parents about her 'favoritism'. I didn't like that she didn't tell her parents; it's not a good example to set.

I absolutely loved this book! It was my first book by Maureen Johnson, and it definitely made me want to read more of her work. Johnson's description of Europe is amazing and makes me long to travel somewhere. Ginny's adventure that her aunt sends her on is mysterious and a joy to read! Check this book out if you love a good romantic adventure.

This is a cute little story about a girl named Virginia who had a very eccentric aunt. Her aunt passed away from brain cancer but before she did she wrote Virginia a note with instructions on her going on an adventure following her specific instructions. She had 13 envelopes, each with an instruction that Virginia had to do. This took her to Europe! She went on some amazing adventures, traveled to all kinds of places, and met very interesting people!

I did really like this story! It was a cute and simple story about a young girl going on an adventure to just have one more chance to know her aunt. I was sucked in to the story right from the beginning and was so curious as to where these envelopes were going to take her that I couldn't put it down. That being said, I was a bit disappointed with the character Virginia, I wish there was more to her, at times she really seemed un-emotional and clueless! But I really did enjoy the story and plan on reading the next book!

Ginny, 17, reads a letter from her free-spirited, unpredictable Aunt Peg, who has recently passed away. She is given several destinations, four rules, and the instruction to open one envelope upon her arrival at each place. Thus begins a rapid tour of Europe as the teen struggles to accomplish the tasks established by her aunt. The motivation: Ginny wants to understand the woman's wanderlust and, possibly, she just wants a connection to her beloved relative. Throughout her adventures in Rome, Paris, Greece, England, and the Netherlands, the teen collects pieces of Peg's past and learns more about her rapid departure. She also learns much about herself. The reason Ginny is sent to meet certain people is not always clear; sometimes she (and readers) wonder about the point of the exercise. Overall, though, the novel drives home the importance of family, love, and the value of connections that you make with people.

13 Little Blue Envelopes easily makes my top three books and is one of the few books worthy of more than five stars.
While the books isn't gripping and littered with cliffhangers I still found it hard to put down and managed to read it in a matter of hours that just flew by.
Personally, I have wanted to travel for as long as I can remember which possibly makes me a little bias towards a book about travelling blindly around Europe on your own, guided only by letters left to you by a deceased relative - mixed with a little romance for those who are interested.
For those who want to travel or like the idea of an adventure this book would be perfect for you. For those who couldn't care less, 13 Little Blue Envelopes is both funny and fascinating.
It wont be a wasted read.

My Thoughts:

Oh, Maureen Johnson, the things you do to me! Where do I even start? The first book I ever read by Maureen was Suite Scarlett and I fell in love with her writing right then! 13 Little Blue Envelopes certainly did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried, and at times I wanted to scream.

Ginny is sent on a wild goose chase by her aunt in the form of, you guessed it, 13 little blue envelopes. Each envelope has instructions telling Ginny where to go, what to do, or who to meet and rules about when and where to open the next envelope. I couldnt put the book down, I read it in one night! I had to find out what was in the next envelope.

The setting is so well described you feel like you are traveling with Ginny most of the time. I was surprised to learn that Maureen hadnt been to all the places she sent Ginny to because it certainly seemed like she had. Talk about fantastic research!

Ginny is an ordinary girl that gets an extraordinary opportunity, one Im not sure Id be so quick to accept. Shes very down-to-earth and level-headed for most of the book, not just a crazy teenager on a whirlwind backpacking excursion.

Keith got on my nerves, a lot. He was a typical annoying guy with horrible judgment. He was absolutely perfect! That seems like a total contradiction, but if Keith had been any other type of guy, the story would not have been what it was. He HAD to be annoying. It absolutely worked.

This book definitely lights the travel fire in me. Im just itching to go on a trip like Ginnys.

The Verdict: Three words: So. Much. Fun. A definite must read for anyone whos ever traveled or is just dying to!

13 Little Blue Envelopes (13LBE) is the story of Ginny Blackstone's summer abroad.  However, 13LBE isn't the typical summer abroad story.  Ginny doesn't choose to go on this trip, she is sent on it by her crazy aunt who has left her directions to follow in 13 letters, hence the title. This is the only book I've read by Maureen Johnson and she is an amazing author.  The whole time I read this book I felt what Ginny was feeling.  I laughed with her, I cried with her, I even pinned for the boy she falls for.  This is definitely a book I recommend to anyone who loves YA novels. This book will make you want to travel where Ginny travels and if you are from the states like me you'll be dying to travel abroad.  I never got the feeling while reading 13LBE that I didn't understand a location Ginny traveled to and I definitely never felt out of the loop.  I can't wait till the sequel comes out.  I'm in love with the life of Ginny Blackstone and I know you'll feel the same way too.
