What a good pair of jeans can do...

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was Ann Brashares first novel and it is a joyous and heart-rending look at four teenage girls on the brink of womanhood. Yes, I know that sounds like something out of a Hallmark card. But, this book really delivers.

Carmen, the insecure one, finds the jeans in a thrift shop. Each of the girls tries the pair on and finds it a perfect fit. Impossible! The four girls, while lifelong friends, have their own distinctive shapes. They decide the pants must be magic and make a pact to share them equally over their first summer apart.

Throughout the summer, the pants travel back and forth between the girls. They travel to Greece with Lena, a beauty who learns about love and trust. Heartbreak (and life lessons) are in store with Bridget spending time in a soccer camp in Baja. Carmen learns about her own strengths and weaknesses as she vacations with her father and her father's new family in South Carolina. And Tibby, stuck at home, finds a new friend who teaches her about life and death.

The story includes the letters that the girls send each other during the summer. They are in turns charming, funny, thoughtful and silly, just like the girls themselves.

Chances are, you'll cry at least once during this book. You'll also laugh.

I highly recommend this book for girls of all ages, but especially those 12 and up.

A great book about friendship

Reader reviewed by Idris

Maybe many
of you have already read these books, maybe others have already seen the movies
... but there are always a few others, like me, who are tired of hearing about
them, but never given the opportunity to read them.  But it is better late than never.

The Sisterhood of the
Traveling Pants is
the
first book in the series that has
the same name. The story begins when
four best friends are splitting up for first time in their life.  Carmen, a Puerto Rican girl is visiting her
father, Lena in going to Greece to spend the summer with her sister and
grandparents, Bee is going to a summer camp, and Tibby is staying home. But
they find a pair of old jeans that magically fit to all of them
, even
though they're all different shapes and sizes. Now they are going to share this
pants all over the summer, and keeping touch with letters.

What can I say?
From the first moment I opened this book I cant put it down. Each character
has its own well-developed story. We can see through the pages truth teenagers
problems and fears. We will see topics like love, friendship, death, loyalty,
and forgiveness. With easy words, Ann Brashares brings to life four teenagers
who are like any real teenager.

I really enjoyed
this book, and when I finished, I went immediately to read the next one. So if
you are one of them, who havent read it yet, give
it a try, you will not
regret it.

A book about the power of friendship

Reader reviewed by Hannah

Follow Carmen, Bridget, Tibby, and Lena as they spend there first summer apart in a very long time. They share a pair of pants that magically fits all of them, despite their different body shapes. This book is about friendship and how as long as you have a good friend you will never be alone. I loved it!

unforgettable sisterly-bond

Reader reviewed by kathy

Read the book that started it all.
Join Lena, Carmen, Bridget, and Tibby as they share a pair of pants over an incredible summer. They each grow in their own way, yet grow together as well. Each girl is doing her own thing for the summer. And to help them get through the first summer apart, they choose to share a "magic" pair of jeans.
Read this book to get to know them and to find out what it's like to have "sisters" there when you need them the most. It might not be as good as the movies but you should take the time to read. They really are great.

Great book, very touching

Reader reviewed by Taylor J

This book was very touching in different ways. One way was that it showed the true meaning of a beautiful friendship. Another way saddens the heart but it would spoil a major event so I won't talk about this. The book was really touching and was a good read for teenage girls. I found that when I started reading I couldn't put it down. This book was a lot better than it's movie adaptation.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Reader reviewed by BooksObsession

Everyone has probably seen or heard of this novel which was made into a movie. I admit, I watched the movie before reading the book. But, I think I actually liked reading the book more than I did watching the movie! I could really connect to the characters, and felt like I was walking around in their own shoes. Each of the four girls had a totally different story, which added to the plot greatly. This was a great book, and it ended way too soon. But luckily, it's the first in a series!

The Gift Of Friendship

Reader reviewed by VictoriaD

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, written by Ann Brashares was a great book to read from start to finish. It taught me about the gift of friendship we have and how great the bond of friendship between 4 girls could grow so big. I really enjoyed this book and could read it again and again......

Wonderfully writen you can really relate to it.......

Reader reviewed by Emily

This book is wonderful. It is a really nice story of the sisterly love they show towards each other. It also shows you that we are all unique in a special way. As well as the troubles we have becoming of age and getting added responsabilities emotionally and Physically.

The Series is just an inspiration to us all to stick together and live our livesto the fullest.

Great Book

Reader reviewed by Alexandra M.

If you want a book full of...emotion, love, pure JOY, happiness, and endless friendship...then The Sisterhood is perfect for you. My second real teen book series, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants just digs deep down into the emotion of these four girls--places no other author, as far as I can see, has ever really reached and even wanted to write about. This book isn't just about friendship and a pair of jeans, it's about true love, life, and finding happiness in things and people you love.
