It’s the summer after sophomore year and Raina has convinced her best friends since the sixth grade, Kathleen and Holly, to spend their summer as “pink angels” in Parker-Sloan General Hospital’s summer volunteer program. Kathleen is reluctant to do it—she has enough responsibility at home caring for her sick mother. But when she meets Carson, a cute and flirty fellow volunteer, she is happy that she joined the program. Or, at least, she thinks she is. Carson’s “old friend” Stephanie keeps showing up at all the wrong times. And Kathleen’s mother keeps complaining that she needs Kathleen at home. But with friends Raina and Holly by her side and her Pink Angel t-shirt on her back, Kathleen is able to realize that helping others also allows you to help yourself.

Editor reviews

I probably shouldn't admit it, but I normally avoid Lurlene McDaniel's books because, darn it, they make me cry. Between Ms. McDaniel and Nicholas Sparks, they could prop up the tissue industry all on their own. But everyone needs a good cry now and then.

However, that said, Kathleen's Story won't bring out the tears in buckets. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I only got a little misty on occasion while reading it, rather than full out bawling. It still has the author's touch - Kathleen's mom has MS and is almost entirely confined to a wheelchair. Kathleen is her primary caregiver and goes back and forth between feeling sorry for herself and her mother.

But, primarily this is a love story. Kathleen starts volunteering at the hospital with her friends Raina and Holly. She meets a flashy rich guy who takes an interest in her that she doesn't feel she deserves. But Carson is determined and nicer than your first glimpses of him would suggest.

I recommend this book for fans of Lurlene McDaniel, but also fans of the romance genre in general. Appropriate for ages 12 and up, girls will particularly enjoy this one.

It was a good book about friends who give up their time to volunteer at a hospital, finding love, jealousy, being true to yourself, and trusting those who you love. It was well written, although somewhattypical of all of Lurlene McDaniel's writing style, sickness and heartbreak. I still liked it though, it was less depressing than her other books, nobody has died, yet. It was still a good book.

Kathleen's Story is the first book in the Angels in Pink Series. It is about three teens who decide to work in a hospital as voulenteers. Kathleen is at first reluctant to become a voulenteer but shortly after joining she realizes that helping others makes it easier to help herself and with her new love intrest, Carson, things might just be looking bright.

It was an amazing book I love this series. It was very well written and it was a very powerful book with a strong message.

This book caught me by surprise. True I just though this book was a sappy love story, and in some ways it is, but it's a lot more as well. Kathleen's story of her summer love is awesome but what I really loved were the little things. The things such as how she copes with her mom having MS, or Holly's boyfriend, oh he is too cute. Really, it's not only the romance that affects you in this book, it's also the reality of the book, and how these friends get along, no matter how different they are.

This book is about 3 good friends called Kathleen, Raina and Holly. This book mainly follows Kathleen throughout the book. Kathleen is begged by her friend Raina to join her in volunteering at the hospital. These volunteers are Angels in Pink. Kathleen meets this rich guy who keeps on trying to get her to go out with him. Eventually she does even though her mother, who is a voctim of MS doesn't want her too.
Her mother then has problems with her heart and has to have surgery.
This book is really good and all Lurlene Mcdaniel fans will love it.
