Piranhas Don't Eat Bananas
Rich with author-illustrator Aaron Blabey's hysterical text and unforgettably wacky illustrations, Piranhas Don't Eat Bananas is a hilarious story about trying new things -- no matter how strange they seem!
adorable and hilarious
PIRANHAS DON’T EAT BANANAS is a delightful, rhyming romp! Brian is a piranha who loves fruit and vegetables. However, when he tries to share with his friends, they inform him that piranhas don’t eat those fruits and veggies- they eat toes, knees, and bums. He convinces them to try a fruit platter, and they like it- but piranhas still prefer bums!
What I loved: This is a book perfect to make preschoolers and young elementary schoolers laugh. Brian and the other piranhas are bright, colorful, and giggle-worthy. The illustrations have high appeal for young readers who will enjoy the cartoonish quality. The large image size makes this book ideal for reading out loud in a classroom setting. With the rhyming text and funny context, this will easily charm classes and students.
I also want to applaud the author for making the piranha love fruit and vegetables, which sets a great, healthy example for young ones (even if they still prefer bums). It is always fantastic to see characters in children’s books eating (and enjoying) healthy foods! This is such a fun example.
Final verdict: With bright and bold illustrations, rhyming text, and a laugh-out-loud funny storyline, young readers are sure to be charmed by Brian the piranha and his love of fruits and veggies.
