Julia has one thing down: her mask. Even though she has the perfect life at school, it isn't the real her. When mean girl Cara tags Julia of a picture of her dressed up as Supergirl with the hashtag #geeksgonewild, Julia's facade cracks just a bit. She needs to take a step back and remember why she fell in love with comics in the first place.
When Matt gets a story on a huge Comic Con, he has no clue where to start. There's one person in the school who he knows that likes comics and that's the "perfect" Julia Farrow. Matt seems skeptical at first, but once they get to Comic Con, he sees a whole different side of her. Here, Julia is in her element and her mask falls apart piece by piece. Matt realizes that he loves this side of Julia and they grow closer and closer. However, both fear what will happen when they return to school.
ONCE UPON A COMIC-CON is a contemporary romance that features instant love. At first Matt and Julia don't care for each other, but as soon as they get to know each other, they fall for one another. Neither are what they seem at school and that's okay. The trip helps teach them that there's more things important in life than putting on a good face. I do wish there were more scenes of them at the comic con because I would've liked to read about Matt's reaction to his first time visiting all of the various booths.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of contemporary romance, insta-love, comic cons, and stories that feature nerdy characters.
