Old-Time Romance and Fantasy
THE BEAUTIFUL ONES is a twisted romance that reminds me of Jane Austin's time. There are three main characters: Hector, Nina, and Valerie. Hector is stuck on his first love Valerie. Nina is at the age of courting, but her telekinetic ability brings gossip more than suitors. Valerie is a cold-hearted lady who is a shell of her younger self. Valerie has allowed money and the priority of her family drive her decisions and it's taken a toll on her.
In search of Valerie, Hector discovers Nina and finds himself intrigued by her difference from other women. She doesn't hold her tongue and fancies beetles over jewelry. Initially, Hector decides to court Nina to get back at Valerie for not waiting for him. Then, it becomes so much more, but Valerie doesn't like to share.
THE BEAUTIFUL ONES is weaved with deception and passion. As I read, I grew angrier and more annoyed with Valerie. If she couldn't be happy, then nobody else could either, especially the spoiled Nina. I love the fantasy element of telekinesis and the strength that Nina has.
Final Verdict: I recommend this to fans of scandal, romance, and fantasy. I have never read a story like this that made me frustrated and happy all in once and in a good way.
