Review Detail
Robin Stone finds herself alone at Baird Colleges Mendenhall during Thanksgiving break. Shes used to being alone and feels invisible on the campus. But then she finds out shes not really alone. Some others have decided to stay at the dorm.
As a rainstorm pounds outside, Robin and four others find an old Ouija board. They decide to use the board for kicks. Little do they know what they will release. Another presence is felt by all of them. A presence that is creepy and doesnt want to leave. At first they feel its just a prank gone badly but clues are left that show otherwise.
Robin searches the old archives to find out who the presence could be. Along the way she finds a kinship with the others. For what they released will prove to be more powerful and evil then they could even imagine.
This fast paced tale felt like Breakfast Club meets Scream. I felt like I was watching a teen horror flick, complete with the action, tension, and creep factor. Id almost say its more of a crossover novel as the characters are in college.
Sokoloff does a great job hooking the reader into a tale that moves quickly. Though I felt some of the characters were a tad bit clichéthe Southern diva roommate, handsome jock, and the slutty girl, I was glued to the pages. I wanted to know more. I was curious what they released when playing with the Ouija board. Though I kind of figured they would release some sort of evil, I didnt expect the final revelation. Robins character is more developed and believable. Who hasnt felt alone when away at college for the first time? Mix in the paranormal and strangers and you have a story that will keep you up. Just make sure to keep the lights on!
