Batman meets Robin Hood
With her face hidden behind a hood/veil, Brynna protects the city of Forcadel. She works hard to bring down the slumlords who are taking advantage of the townspeople. But when Brynna’s father and brother die suddenly and unexpectedly, she becomes next in line for the throne. With her brother’s friend, Felix, insistence, she finds herself back at the castle.
Brynna has trouble with the council and adapting to her role as queen. She had more success on the streets. She makes a bargain with Felix to resume her activities at night as long as she tries harder to be a good queen. She becomes a vigilante by night and a queen-in-training by day. Luckily, her sister-in-law Katarine is there to help with the politics side of things. Brynna is treading a dangerous path, but she isn’t one to give up.
THE CITY OF VEILS gives me a Batman/Robin Hood feel. I adored Felix and Katharine’s characters. I also liked how strong and stubborn Brynna is. I devoured this story and am eager for the next one.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of royalty, Batman, politics, Robin Hood, and fantasy.
