Submarine Outlaw Review

A somewhat unusual story--a boy travelling throughout the Maritimes in his own homemade submarine--with a seagull and a dog for a crew--but it works--and it's really the start to an incredible adventure series. I would recommend this to anyone--young or old! I love this series--it's one of the best I've...

Outlaw in India Review

This is an amazing novel. I can't wait for Roy's next novel in the series to come out!

Journey to Atlantis Review

I have always wondered about Atlantis, and I guess Philip Roy does, too. This was a great story--with certain mystical twists. It held my attention from start to finish--and Al has got to be one of my favourite characters of all time!

Ghosts of the Pacific Review

An incredible story--with lots of history and geography, too! I loved Al's journey to the Arctic--and my favorite part was when he met Cinnamon, who is a trapeze artist in a traveling circus. I also loved Al's growing environmentalism--and how he is so self-sacrificing when saving dolphins and turtles from...

River Odyssey Review

In some ways, I was skeptical about this novel, as I thought the plot might end up being thin. But that wasn't the case at all! Al grows so much in this novel--and there was not a moment that my attention wavered! Another terrific book from Philip Roy. This series...

Submarine Outlaw Review

Alfred, Ziegfried, and Sheba are all great characters--but you can't forget Hollie and Seaweed! This is a great book, and the series just gets better and better!

Ghosts of the Pacific Review

This is one of my favorite novels in the Submarine Outlaw series by Philip Roy, especially because there are so many wonderful environmental themes in this one. Alfred also makes friends with Cinnamon, who is part of a floating circus. This book was also really interesting from a historical standpoint,...

River Odyssey Review

This is the third novel in the Submarine Outlaw series. Alfred goes on a quest to find his father, and he finds out a lot more about himself in the process. I really loved this story, and was glad that Alfred took Sheba's advice.

Journey to Atlantis Review

This is the second novel in the series, and Alfred's travels become more and more interesting as each book progresses. There are some really magical elements to this one--you've just got to read it!

Outlaw in India-Book Review

I loved this book because it looked at class issues in a really empathetic way. It's hard to believe that anyone would have to endure what Radji, just a ten-year-old boy, (and an Untouchable), goes through. I've never been to India, but I felt like I had been there after...
