Max Does it Again!

Max Goes to Mars is the latest adventure in a series of science-adventure books starring Max, a smart, curious rotweiller that loves space travel. After traveling to the moon in his last book, Max Goes to the Moon, hes sent to Mars this time around to search for life on the red planet.

Both my boys love to read books about space and discuss whether or not there is life on other planets, so this book is right up their alley. Its chock-full of beautiful illustrations and an exciting narrative in which Max actually travels to Mars and scratches up some Mars dust. (But I wont give away what he finds!) He keeps the astronauts company on the long journey to Mars and once hes there, he dons a special space suit thats outfitted with an attachment that lets him sniff around for life.

In addition to the main narrative, the book features call-out boxes on each side of every page. These boxes are educational add-ons for older readers and discuss topics like water on Mars, distance to the red planet, life on Mars, how the planet was named and more. The only caveat to the book is that the narrative itself is wordy and long and may not be enjoyed by most four-year-olds. Instead it might be better enjoyed by first-graders with an interest in space and younger children with a long attention span.
