In this sequel to SKINNYBONES, Alex collects his big prize for winning the catfood essay contest. He heads to New York City to star in a commercial! Unfortunately, his part is totally humiliating, making him look and act like a four-year-old. AND people don't seem to quite recognize what a big star he is.
When he gets home, he worries. His friends and enemies might actually give him a hard time when they see his commercial. Would they? Indeed, they would--and do. Oh, sure, Alex now has a fan club, but the members are his grandparents (who can't attend because they live in Florida), his cat, and the kid in diapers who lives down the street.
Alex gets a second stab at stardom when he tries out for the school play. What happens then is funny and deeply thought-provoking. The author has a gift for making readers laugh out loud, and yet getting to the heart of an important issue.
Highly recommended.
