What would you do if you found out your dead beat father was in fact a superhero? That’s what happens to eighteen-year-old high school dropout Lucas. Out of the blue, his father shows up announcing he wants Lucas to follow in his footsteps. What’s a guy to do?
For Lucas it’s an easy decision. He decides he’ll stay with his mother and dead-end job as an auto mechanic then follow a complete stranger. Then tragedy hits his home, killing his mother. Lucas finds himself with the very person he didn’t want to be with. But if this means he can revenge the death of his mother, so be it. Lucas moves into his father’s mansion and starts a grueling training to be the next Raptor. But along the way Lucas starts questioning the whole superhero thing. His own father’s behavior leaves him questioning the line between good and evil.
This tale takes a whole different approach on the so-called good superhero. What would happen if you found out you are related to a superhero who hasn’t been that great with you? In fact who’s been a complete stranger? Lucas struggles with this new knowledge and his refusal to follow the Raptor at first quickly change once violence erupts around him. I liked how Lucas didn’t follow the Raptor blindly but in fact starts questioning some of his motives. Some of the training sessions are very intense and dark. So are the revelations on how quickly one can forget the whole true purpose of helping people.
Legacy is sure to appeal to those who love superhero tales and those who like characters that aren't stereotypes.
