The classics as we know them may never be the same! “Classics Retold to Be Read, Not Just Revered” is a series of books published by Japan & Stuff Press, that help make classics more easily understood and digested.
Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, is the first of these “retold classics.” Author Michael Brase’s rewrite of Economy, the first and longest chapter of Walden, and Where I Lived and What I lived For, are like a special gift to both students and teachers of literature. His simplistic style renders Thoreau’s thought-provoking manuscript about his two-year stay at a crude cabin near Walden Pond very easy to digest. The depth and inspiration of Thoreau’s original manuscript is not lost, but is seamlessly woven into Brase’s easy-to-read style and format.
This series can easily become a favorite of high school and secondary educators.
Michael Brase is an editor and translator living in Japan.
