"You're not finished when you lose, you are finished when you quit." I don't know who wrote it but it's a mantra that I live by. After receiving 150+ rejection letters, I finally did it! Sold my first book! It's been an exciting journey! My advice: perservere. It's the only thing standing between losing and succeeding.
Rebecca North Young has written 3 books of monologues for young actors. Regarding her inspiration for the 300+ monologues so far, she says, “I have three girls, two of which are still teenagers, one just barely out of that age range. It’s all about comedy and tragedy around my house. Believe me, there’s not much else in between.” Friends and family (she won’t dare say who), television, and just a plain old overactive imagination help Rebecca create a wide array of monologues to choose from.
When she’s not writing monologues, Rebecca writes and directs drama for middle and high school students at her church. She co-founded a group called One Voice who travels annually to perform at various churches. It is a great passion of hers to combine writing and working with youth. Besides writing fiction, plays, monologs, and other children's books, Rebecca enjoys reading, scrapbooking, and hiking. Her Author Visits are interactive and entertaining. Both students and teachers will be affected by her highly motivational presentation. Email for more information!
Ms. Young lives with her husband (Frank), three wonderful and dramatic daughters (Heather, Kristina, and Ashley), and a cat (who has a name but is more often than not called Gray Kitty.)
Whether you are an actor or a writer, she suggests this quote as a daily mantra: “You aren’t finished when you lose; you are finished when you quit.”
Never give up hope.
