Meet Swinging At Love!

Outfielder Tristan Murrell has a problem. As the number two slugger for the Suttonville Sentinels, his team is counting on him to make their very first run at the state championship. But he has a secret—his swing has totally deserted him. As in, he can’t hit anything. He needs to fix the issue, and fast, but how?

Ballerina Alyssa Kaplan has a problem, too. The shiny new sports complex in town has left her family’s batting cage business on the verge of going under. Nailing her audition for a prestigious dance company is everything, but there’s no way she’s letting her some shiny big-box company destroy her family’s livelihood.

Tristan needs a miracle. So does Alyssa. And maybe, just maybe, Tristan’s secret weapon might be the girl of his dreams…

Disclaimer: This book contains hot, shirtless baseball players, kisses that bring a ballerina to her knees, and a lot of baseball smack-talk.

Hi YABC readers! Thanks for letting me hang with y’all today. It’s almost my favorite time of year: baseball season. To celebrate the release of Swing Away, about an outfielder with a batting problem and the ballerina who becomes his coach (and muse), I’m here to chat about my Top 5 baseball stories. I never realized how many baseball movies I watched until I started this post…enjoy!

#1 Major League (1989), starring Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen (pre-meltdown), Corbin Bernsen, Rene Russo, and a lot of other recognizable actors. In short, the new owner of the team puts together the worst team ever so she can move the franchise to Florida.

#2 A League of Their Own (1992), starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Madonna, Lori Perry, Rosie O’Donnell, Bill Pullman, and on and on…Based on the real-life story of the “All American Girls Professional Baseball League” which was in service from 1943 to 1954.

#3 The Sandlot (1993), starring Tom Guiry, Karen Allen, and James Earl Jones. A nerdy boy joins a group of neighborhood baseball players and learns the game. Also stars a mysterious dog named Beast, and a Babe Ruth baseball. It’s laugh out loud funny and contains a line that you hear all the time:

#4 The Rookie, starring Dennis Quaid, J. D. Evermore, and Rachel Griffiths. A Texas baseball coach makes a bet that if his team makes the playoffs, he’ll try out for the majors. It’s the story of delayed dreams coming true, and you’ll totally tear up toward the end (happy tears!).

#5 The Bad News Bears (the 1976 version) with Walter Matthau, Tatum O’Neal, Vic Morrow, and Joyce Van Patten. A beer-swilling coach brings in a ringer of a female pitcher to his Little League team. It’s a wonderfully subversive movie, salty language and all. Walter Matthau is amazing in it.

How about you? What’s your favorite baseball movie?

I like the nice book cover. This sounds like a good baseball/ballerina romance.
